A modified method of pulse-shaper technique applied in SHPB

Composites Part B: Engineering, 2019
Abstract During the experimental measurement of solid materials by SHPB, a pulse-shaper technique is used to eliminate high-frequency oscillation components and acquire an incident pulse with a rising time that is greater than the time needed by the test specimen to reach a stress equilibrium state.

Compressive Deformation Behaviors of Aluminum Alloy in a SHPB Test

Transactions of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers A, 2012
Structures are often subjected to various types of loading such as static, dynamic, or impact loading. Therefore, experimental and numerical methods have been employed to find adequate material properties according to the conditions. The Split-Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) test has frequently been used to test engineering materials, particularly those ...

Numerical Simulation of SHPB Experiment and Analysis on Stress Wave

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2011
Concrete is a typical kind of rate sensitive material. In this paper, the concrete specimens were tested in the SHPB experiment system. Based on H-J-C constitutive model, the SHPB experiment was simulated by LS-DANY. The stress-strain curves which were gat from numerical simulation in the LS-DANY were compared with the stress-strain curves which were ...

Investigating Uncertainty in SHPB Modeling and Characterization of Soft Materials

2014
The increasing use of soft materials in industrial, commercial and military applications has necessitated a more thorough understanding of their visco-hyperelastic, reactive, and other non-linear properties. Additionally, testing and design methods for components that employ these materials have required innovation.

Sensitivity and Uncertainty Analysis of SHPB Tests for Concrete Materials

International Journal of Applied Mechanics, 2016
Many researches focus on the effect of interfacial friction on Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) tests of concrete materials, in which SHPB is one of the most widely used techniques for determination of the dynamic stress–strain response. However, except for the interfacial friction, the stress–strain response is also affected by many other ...

Optimal Pulse Shapes for SHPB Tests on Soft Materials

2011
For split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) tests on soft materials, the goals of homogeneous deformation and uniform uniaxial stress in the specimen present experimental challenges, particularly at higher strain rates. It has been known for some time that attainment of these conditions is facilitated by reducing the thickness of the specimen or by ...

A New Technique of Dynamic Spherical Indentation Based on SHPB

2013
A new technique for testing dynamic spherical indentation of materials was proposed. It is implement by putting a WC alloy ball between two specimens. One of the specimens was bonded with input bar and the other was bonded with the output bar. Two specimens then was pressed in the process of indentation.

HISTORICAL REVIEW OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE SHPB METHOD IN JAPAN

International Journal of Modern Physics B, 2008
Historical review of research and development of the SHPB method in Japan is outlined. After introduction of the SHPB in early 1960s, various kinds of compression, tension, torsion and bending tests have been performed in Japan and are presently shown together with special techniques such as the strain rate change test and the ramped wave method ...

Experimental study for friction effect investigation on SHPB

2001
The paper presents an investigation on SHPB behaviour used for material characterisation in compression testing at high strain rate. Material flow stress determined with the SHPB test is affected by radial and axial inertia as well as friction. The particular topics treated are the effects of friction between specimen and bars interfaces on the flow ...

Wave shaping by special shaped striker in SHPB tests

2011
The split Hopkinson pressure bar has been a very popular and promising experimental technique for the study of dynamic behaviours of metallic materials for its easy operation and relatively accurate results, with three basic assumptions (Davies and Hunter, 1963; Bazle, Sergey and John, 2004): (a) waves propagating in the bars can be described by the ...
