Regulation of shrimp prophenoloxidase activating system by lva-miR-4850 during bacterial infection

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) suppress gene expression and regulate biological processes. Following small RNA sequencing, shrimp hemocytes miRNAs differentially expressed in response to acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) caused by Vibrio ...

On the Sound of Snapping Shrimp

open access: yesPhysics of Fluids, 2001
Fluid dynamics video: Snapping shrimp produce a snapping sound by an extremely rapid closure of their snapper claw. Our high speed imaging of the claw closure has revealed that the sound is generated by the collapse of a cavitation bubble formed in a fast flowing water jet forced out from the claws during claw closure.

Antimicrobial Resistant Bacteria in Shrimp and Shrimp Farms of Bangladesh

open access: yesWater, 2022
The purpose of this study was to investigate the presence of pathogenic bacteria, specifically Escherichia coli and Salmonella and Vibrio species, and their antimicrobial resistance in shrimp aquaculture facilities of Bagerhat (Bangladesh). Sediment samples were collected from both Penaeus monodon and Macrobrachium rosenbergii farms and shrimp samples ...

Co-expression of double-stranded RNA and viral capsid protein in the novel engineered Escherichia coli DualX-B15(DE3) strain

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2021
Background Viruses cause significant economic losses to shrimp aquaculture worldwide. In severe cases, they can lead to 100% mortality within a matter of days, hence the aquaculture industry requires antiviral strategies to minimize economic impacts ...

Alternative Splicing of the Lobster (Homarus americanus) Crustacean Hyperglycemic Hormone A and B Genes Produce 2 Protein Variants Involved in Vitellogenin Inhibition

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2022
Current BLASTP search analysis results suggested that the lobster (Homarus americanus) HaCHH-A and HaCHH-B may be derived from two different four-exon genes. Repeated tissue expression studies have revealed much different expression patterns of these two

Decontamination of Monodon Baculovirus in Marine Shrimp Eggs using Upwelling Flow-Through System

open access: yesWalailak Journal of Science and Technology, 2015
Penaeus monodon-type baculovirus (MBV) is a horizontal transmission virus disease especially found in marine shrimp. Even though sanitization of MBV contamination in shrimp hatcheries by using clean seawater or chemicals has been recommended, the ...

Effects of acute ammonia exposure on oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum stress and apoptosis in the kuruma shrimp (Marsupenaeus japonicus)

open access: yesAquaculture Reports, 2022
Ammonia is one of the main toxic substances in aquaculture water and causes serious physiological harm to aquatic animals. In the present study, we investigated the effects of ammonia exposure on antioxidant defense, endoplasmic reticulum stress and ...
