Progress in the development of shrimp cell cultures in Thailand

Methods in Cell Science, 1999
Primary shrimp cell cultures were developed from lymphoid organ and ovaries of black tiger shrimp, Penaeus monodon, in double-strength Leibovitz's L-15 medium supplemented with 15% fetal bovine serum, 1% glucose, 5 g/L NaCl, 15% shrimp meat extract. The optimum conditions for primary culture in vitro were obtained in L-15 medium with an osmolality of ...

Physiological constraints in shrimp cultures

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 1997
Abstract The biological requirements of animals change considerably during development from the egg to the (early) adult stage. Some basic physiological requirements (respiration, excretion of metabolic end products, space requisites, aspects of feeding biology) of cultured animals are considered in relation to design (surface area, depth) and ...

On the 2-crop culture of penaeid shrimps

Chinese Journal of Oceanology and Limnology, 1988
Although much progress has been made in the last few years on the hatchery rearing of penaeid shrimps, the use of artificial feeds and the innovation of culture techniques, the key problem in the shrimp culture industry is still to increase yield per unit culture area for greater economic returns.

Fusariosis in the shrimp Penaeus semisulcatus cultured in Israel

Mycopathologia, 1989
The first case of a mycotic infection in shrimp in Israel is reported. Fusarium solani produced a large melanized lesion in a specimen of Penaeus semisulcatus cultured at Eilat, on the Red Sea. Fungal hyphae elicited a strong hemocytic response in cuticular and connective tissues.

Shrimp culture and the environment

1996
The paper discusses the impacts of shrimp culture to the environment in some countries in Asia. Specifically, it highlights the land requirements suitable for shrimp farming and the impacts of shrimp culture on mangroves. The positive effects of mangroves such as its filtering capacity and as a protective buffer are also discussed.

Utility of added substrates in shrimp culture.

2005
AbstractThis paper reviews the status of research on substrate additions in shrimp and prawn culture for human consumption. Shrimp natural habitat, diet and culture systems are different for the nursery and juvenile grow-out stages of the life cycle.

OPTIMAL HARVEST SIZE IN SHRIMP CULTURES

Crustaceana, 1999
AbstractMany factors (e.g., food conversion efficiency, stocking density, harvest size, product value and food value) determine the economic profitability of shrimp cultures. Food conversion efficiency (FCE) and body size are negatively related. During ontogenetic development, the efficiency with which animals convert ingested food into body mass ...
