Trace Element Contamination in Top Predatory Elasmobranchs From the Southern Black Sea: Implications for Ecosystem Health and Risk Assessment

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Environmental pollution resulting from the rapid increase in human population, urbanization, intensive use of chemicals in agriculture, and industrial development has reached a level that threatens natural life today. Trace elements are one of the most important factors causing significant levels of pollution in the environment and are added ...

FEASIBILITY STUDY ON APPLICATION OF SHRIMP CATCH QUOTA IN HORMOZGAN PROVINCE

open access: yes‬‭Majallah-i ̒Ilmī-i Shīlāt-i Īrān, 2008

Ducks across the pond ‐ challenges and opportunities for collaboration between North America and Europe

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, EarlyView.
Abstract Many waterfowl species and closely related congeners are shared across the Holarctic, and are culturally and economically important in both North America and Europe. Accordingly, both continents have developed science and management frameworks in an attempt to establish evidence‐based conservation practices for this guild of birds.

Estimating Shrimp Fishing Effort

open access: yes, 1992
pgs. 99-101To estimate shrimp fishing effort for each location cell (statistical subarea/depth zone) on a monthly basis, there must be two elements of data for each cell: 1)total pounds of shrimp caught by species and, 2)the average catch per unit of ...

Limited Effects of Temperature on Captive Eastern Hellbender (Cryptobranchus alleganiensis alleganiensis) Growth

open access: yesZoo Biology, EarlyView.
While higher temperatures are generally expected to increase amphibian growth, our experiments with captive‐reared Eastern Hellbenders found no evidence that growth increased at a rearing temperature of 21°C relative to 16°C. As Eastern Hellbender reintroduction efforts move forward, a focus on other conditions, such as density or diet, might be more ...

Predator-Prey Research and Shrimp Mortality

open access: yes, 1992
pgs. 38-42In estuarine nurseries, predation by fishes appears to be a major cause of shrimp mortality. While natural mortality rates of juvenile brown shrimp during the spring in Galveston Bay can exceed 50% for two-week periods, mortality in predator ...

Effects of Density and Food Availability on the Growth of Captive‐Reared Eastern Hellbenders

open access: yesZoo Biology, EarlyView.
Our experiments demonstrate that food is the major factor limiting captive‐reared Hellbender growth and that increasing rearing density to the tested levels does not negatively impact growth. Implementing these changes may result in larger, more robust Hellbenders and increase the success of reintroduction programs.
