Shunt active power filters have been introduced as a way to overcome the power quality problems caused by nonlinear and reactive loads [9, 14, 23]. These power electronics devices are designed with the goal of obtaining a power factor close to 1 and achieving current harmonics and reactive power compensation [5, 6, 15]. The usual approaches [5, 15] for

Shunt active power filter with ADMC330
Proceedings IPEMC 2000. Third International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (IEEE Cat. No.00EX435), 2002In this paper, we describe a scheme for the shunt active power filter with ADMC330 (single chip DSP microcontroller) which was developed successfully. The results of experiment indicate that harmonic currents in three-phase three-wire system could be compensated successfully.

Adaptive Compensation of Reactive Power with Shunt Active Power Filters
Conference Record of the 2006 IEEE Industry Applications Conference Forty-First IAS Annual Meeting, 2006This paper describes an adaptive method for compensating the reactive power with an active power filter (APF), which is initially rated for mitigation of only the harmonic currents given by a nonlinear industrial load. It is proven that, if the harmonic currents do not load the APF at the rated power, the available power can be used to provide a part ...

Improved shunt active power filters
2008 International School on Nonsinusoidal Currents and Compensation, 2008This paper describes a shunt active power filters (APF) with improved dynamic performance. When the value of load current changes rapidly, the APF transient response is too slow, the line current suffers from dynamic distortion. This distortion causes an increase of harmonic content in the line current, which is dependent on a time constant.

Compensation Characteristics of Shunt Active and Series Active Power Filters.
IEEJ Transactions on Industry Applications, 1993AbstractActive power filters have been used in practice to suppress the harmonic interference in power systems. To compensate for harmonic currents of loads, active power filters usually are connected to power systems in parallel with the loads.

Simulation and comparison between hybrid active power filter and shunt active power filter
2015 International Conference on Electrical, Electronics, Signals, Communication and Optimization (EESCO), 2015The shunt active power filters (SAPFs) and hybrid active power filter (HAPF) is used for practical solution to solve the electric power quality, (EPQ) issues. The emerging power-electronic devices and the new developments in digital signal processing (DSP), have made possible its practical use. The active power filters can compensate the nonlinear load

Real-Time Shunt Active Power Filter Compensation
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2008This letter presents the application of a real-time simulation technique to shunt active power filter compensation of the harmonic currents and reactive power in the power system. Available literature details several techniques developed and implemented to perform real-time simulations on the power system analysis.

Shunt Active Power Filter and Its Application
2010 International Conference on Challenges in Environmental Science and Computer Engineering, 2010With the extensive application of high-power switching devices, the quality of electric power is growing problem seriously, which causes the current (voltage) distortion, producing a large number of harmonics. This paper introduces the principle, structure, device development and the characteristics of active filter, and its application in power system

Energy controlled shunt active power filters
COMPEL - The international journal for computation and mathematics in electrical and electronic engineering, 2007PurposeShunt active power filters are used to decrease or almost eliminate non‐active currents flowing through the supply source. Numerous control methods of active filters have been proposed in many papers. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate a simple but very effective method of obtaining the compensated load active current.Design/methodology ...

Better performance for shunt active power filters
2011 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP), 2011This paper proposes a time domain harmonic detection technique which is an improved a-b-c reference frame formula based upon the p-q theory with a positive sequence detector to solve the problem of bad performance of shunt active power filters (SAPF) under non-ideal mains.
