Shunt active power filters have been introduced as a way to overcome the power quality problems caused by nonlinear and reactive loads [9, 14, 23]. These power electronics devices are designed with the goal of obtaining a power factor close to 1 and achieving current harmonics and reactive power compensation [5, 6, 15]. The usual approaches [5, 15] for

A shunt active power filter control for unbalanced conditions
10th IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits and Systems, 2003. ICECS 2003. Proceedings of the 2003, 2004This paper first presents a simple control technique for active filters to compensate current harmonics and reactive power of nonlinear loads. This method is usable for both single-phase and three-phase systems. Then a new method for load balancing and reactive power compensation for unbalanced sinusoidal load currents is presented.

On the design of shunt active filter for improving power quality
2008 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics, 2008Several schemes and control techniques have been proposed in active power filtering these last years, often assuming that all the components are well sized, or at least they do not affect the control algorithm performance. The first step in designing an active filter is to select suitable values.

A Matlab-Simulink Approach To Shunt Active Power Filters
ECMS 2011 Proceedings edited by: T. Burczynski, J. Kolodziej, A. Byrski, M. Carvalho, 2011Due to the wide spread of power electronics equipment in modern electrical systems, the increase of the harmonics disturbance in the ac mains currents has became a major concern due to the adverse effects on all equipment. This paper presents the analysis and simulation using Matlab Simulink of a three-phase four wire neutral clamped active power ...

Apparent power ratio of the Shunt Active Power Filter
2008 13th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference, 2008The main purpose of this paper is the evaluation of the shunt active power filter apparent power ratio between the apparent power generated by the source power system to the load and the compensation apparent power produced by the shunt APF to force the currents circulating toward the source to be sinusoidal and balanced. This ratio allows defining the

Simulation and comparison between hybrid active power filter and shunt active power filter
2015 International Conference on Electrical, Electronics, Signals, Communication and Optimization (EESCO), 2015The shunt active power filters (SAPFs) and hybrid active power filter (HAPF) is used for practical solution to solve the electric power quality, (EPQ) issues. The emerging power-electronic devices and the new developments in digital signal processing (DSP), have made possible its practical use. The active power filters can compensate the nonlinear load

Improved shunt active power filters
2008 International School on Nonsinusoidal Currents and Compensation, 2008This paper describes a shunt active power filters (APF) with improved dynamic performance. When the value of load current changes rapidly, the APF transient response is too slow, the line current suffers from dynamic distortion. This distortion causes an increase of harmonic content in the line current, which is dependent on a time constant.

Better performance for shunt active power filters
2011 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP), 2011This paper proposes a time domain harmonic detection technique which is an improved a-b-c reference frame formula based upon the p-q theory with a positive sequence detector to solve the problem of bad performance of shunt active power filters (SAPF) under non-ideal mains.

A novel active power filter with shunt transformer
2009 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems, 2009In the paper, a novel active power filter with a shunt transformer and an inverter is proposed. A transformer is chosen and its primary winding is connected in parallel with harmonic source, the primary fundamental voltage is detected and functions as the given signal.

Shunt active filter for reactive power compensation
International Journal of Electronics, 2001A simple control technique for three-phase shunt active filters without computation of the reactive current component is presented. A current controller with fast dynamics for an active filter is described. Reactive current is directly controlled without the need for sensing and computing the reactive component of the load current, thus simplifying the
