Breaching the Sieve Element—The Role of Saliva as the Molecular Interface between Aphids and the Phloem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This chapter discusses the potential role of aphid saliva within the sieve element, focusing largely on the watery saliva because this component is known to be actively secreted both prior to and during ingestion of phloem sap.

Stress analysis and optimization of coarse aggregate of large stone porous asphalt mixture based on discrete element method

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials, 2023
The content of fine aggregate and asphalt in large stone porous asphalt mixture (LSPM) is low, and the load is mainly borne by the stable skeleton structure formed by the interlocking between coarse aggregates.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Role of the phloem in the biochemistry and ecophysiology of benzylisoquinoline alkaloid metabolism

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2013
Benzylisoquinoline alkaloids (BIAs) are a diverse group of biologically active specialized metabolites produced mainly in four plant families. BIA metabolism is likely of monophyletic origin and involves multiple enzymes yielding structurally diverse ...

Optimization of airflow cylinder sieve for threshed rice separation using CFD-DEM

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics, 2020
The airflow cylinder sieve directly affects the harvesting effect as one of the main components of the rice combine harvester. The process of grain separated from threshed rice mixture is a multi-physical random pattern. This paper constructed accurately

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Electrophysiological approach to determine kinetic parameters of sucrose uptake by single sieve elements or phloem parenchyma cells in intact Vicia faba plants

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2013
Apart from a few using cut aphid stylets, no attempts have been made thus far to measure in vivo sucrose-uptake properties of sieve elements. We investigated the kinetics of sucrose uptake by single sieve elements and phloem parenchyma cells in Vicia ...

Post-sieve element transport of photoassimilates in sink regions

open access: yes, 1996
Photoassimilate transport from the sieve elements to the recipient sink cells, principally in the form of sucrose, provides a link between sink metabolism and compartmentation with phloem import.
