Cohomological reduction of sigma models [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2010
This article studies some features of quantum field theories with internal supersymmetry, focusing mainly on 2-dimensional non-linear sigma models which take values in a coset superspace. It is discussed how BRST operators from the target space supersymmetry algebra can be used to identify subsectors which are often simpler than the original model and ...

The RP(^2) sigma and easy plane baby skyrme models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
This thesis examines the behaviour of two new models exhibiting topological solitons. This analysis is predominantly numerical, but a limited collective coordinate approach is attempted where appropriate. In chapter 1 we review the field of solitons.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Gauged sigma models and magnetic Skyrmions

open access: yesSciPost Physics, 2019
We define a gauged non-linear sigma model for a 2-sphere valued field and a $SU(2)$ connection on an arbitrary Riemann surface whose energy functional reduces to that for critically coupled magnetic skyrmions in the plane, with arbitrary ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

PSEUDODUALITY IN SUPERSYMMETRIC SIGMA MODELS [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics A, 2010
We study the pseudoduality transformation in supersymmetric sigma models. We generalize the classical construction of pseudoduality transformation to supersymmetric case. We perform this both by component expansion method on manifold [Formula: see text] and by orthonormal coframe method on manifold [Formula: see text].

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Subsampling effects in neuronal avalanche distributions recorded in vivo

open access: yesBMC Neuroscience, 2009
Background Many systems in nature are characterized by complex behaviour where large cascades of events, or avalanches, unpredictably alternate with periods of little activity. Snow avalanches are an example.

Orbifolds by 2-groups and decomposition

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2022
In this paper we study three-dimensional orbifolds by 2-groups with a trivially-acting one-form symmetry group BK. These orbifolds have a global two-form symmetry, and so one expects that they decompose into (are equivalent to) a disjoint union of other ...

Solitons in low-dimensional sigma models [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The aim of this thesis is to study topological soliton solutions in classical field theories, called sigma models, on a three-dimensional space. In chapter 1 we review the general field-theoretical framework of classical soliton solutions and exemplify ...
