Mathematical Signs and Their Cultural Transmission in Pretend Play

2020
Mathematics is a critical aspect of early childhood curricula and integral to competency in all STEM subjects. Developed historically, the abstract symbolic language of mathematics is a powerful cultural phenomenon. Using a genetic approach to research the beginning mathematical inscriptions of 3-4-year-olds has highlighted their meaning-based symbol ...

Analysis on Semiosis of Mathematical Signs in the Mathematical Modeling

The Korean Society of Educational Studies in Mathematics - Journal of Educational Research in Mathematics
This study aims to analyze the process of mathematical modeling, focusing on how students generate mathematical representations and how the generation and modification of these representations relate to the mathematical modeling process. Particularly, this study examines, from Peirce's semiotic perspective, which characteristic among iconic, indexical,

MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS OF TRUCKS BLOCKING ROADWAY SIGNS

Civil Engineering and Environmental Systems, 2000
Abstract The problem of obstructed road signs is significant because a missed sign can lead to driver confusion and, consequently, safety hazards. One of the main instances when drivers experience blocked road signs is when a passenger car in the left lane has their field of vision obstructed due to the presence of a large truck in the right lane ...
