CD226+CD8+ T cells express elevated levels of RUNX2, exhibit higher proliferation capacity, cytokines and cytolytic molecules expression, and migratory capacity. In contrast, CD226−CD8+ T cells display an exhausted phenotype associated with the increased expression of co‐inhibitory receptors and impaired effector functions.

Dynamic receptor team formation can explain the high signal transduction gain in E. coli [PDF]
Evolution has provided many organisms with sophisticated sensory systems that enable them to respond to signals in their environment. The response frequently involves alteration in the pattern of movement, such as the chemokinesis of the bacterium ...

Plasma Proteome Profiling to detect and avoid sample‐related biases in biomarker studies
Plasma and serum are rich sources of information regarding an individual's health state, and protein tests inform medical decision making. Despite major investments, few new biomarkers have reached the clinic.

Secrecy of Signals by Typing in Signal Transduction [PDF]
International audienceWe discuss secrecy of signals in signal transduction. As we have developed a basic concurrent language with interferencial coefficients, Ipi-calculus, to describe aberrance in biological models, a typing system for Ipi-calculus is ...

Transient receptor potential melastatin‐4 (TRPM4) is overexpressed in prostate cancer (PCa). Knockout of TRPM4 resulted in reduced PCa tumor spheroid size and decreased PCa tumor spheroid outgrowth. In addition, lack of TRPM4 increased cell death in PCa tumor spheroids.

It Takes Two to Tango: Endothelial TGFβ/BMP Signaling Crosstalk with Mechanobiology
Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are members of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGFβ) superfamily of cytokines. While some ligand members are potent inducers of angiogenesis, others promote vascular homeostasis.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a disease with very poor prognosis due to therapeutic limitations. We investigated the antitumor effects of cystatin A (CSTA) in PDAC murine models. We are first to confirm that CSTA enhances T helper type 1‐mediated antitumor effects through promotion of dendritic cells and M1 macrophage activity. CSTA can be

Length-dependent gene misexpression is associated with Alzheimer’s disease progression
Recent reports show transcription preference for long genes in neuronal tissues compared with non-neuronal tissues, and a gene-length dependent change in expression in the neurodevelopmental disease Rett syndrome (RTT).

Watching the hands of the Arabidopsis biological clock [PDF]
Oligonucleotide and cDNA microarrays have been used to analyse the mRNA levels of 8,000 genes in Arabidopsis thaliana throughout the day/night cycle. Genes involved in signal transduction and in various metabolic pathways were found to be coordinately ...
