The effect of silage additive and concentrate supplementation on lamb silage intake and performance

Proceedings of the British Society of Animal Production (1972), 1992
Silage has substituted hay as the major conserved herbage in Galicia due to the well-known nutritional benefits of the former. However, the heavy spring rainfall has caused widespread problems in silage conservation quality. Consequently, silage additives are used increasingly and the benefits of formic acid under difficult ensiling conditions have ...

Silage and milk production: a comparison between additives for silage of high digestibility

Grass and Forage Science, 1977
AbstractThree grass silages made in early June from S23 perennial ryegrass were compared in a 16‐week feeding experiment with twelve Ayrshire cows. The silages were made from uniform herbage which received either formic acid (‘Add‐F’) at the rate of 201 t−1, or a formalin‐sulphuric acid mixture (‘Syiade’) at rates of 2.0 and 4.4 1 t−1. The silages were

The effects of some additives on the microflora of silage

Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 1981
AbstractThe microflora of experimental batches of grass silage treated with formaldehyde, with formaldehyde plus formic acid, or with sodium benzoate and held at a constant temperature of 20°C was examined during fermentation and after exposure to air.

Effect of enzyme additives on kikuyu silage quality

Journal of the Grassland Society of Southern Africa, 1991
Chopped kikuyu grass of low digestibility and low in non-structural carbohydrates was treated with three commercial enzyme preparations, namely, Celluclast, SP 249 and Silo Guard II. These enzymes were added to the kikuyu prior to ensiling in laboratory silos with a capacity of 1 kg.

Enzymes Usage as Silage Additives

2007
Recently, some additives having various properties are developed for the better silage fermentation. Of those additives the enzymes, when are used as additives of silages, improve the silage fermentation and decrease the plant celi wall components like hemicellulose and cellulose releasing the additional substrate source for the lactic acid bacteria ...
