Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Approximation of fractional derivatives by Brass-Stancu operators

open access: yesAnalele Stiintifice ale Universitatii Ovidius Constanta: Seria Matematica
In this paper, we study uniform approximation of fractional derivatives in Caputo sense by Brass-Stancu operators. For the rate of approximation, we give some estimates in terms of the modulus of continuity.

Low-discrepancy sequences for piecewise smooth functions on the two-dimensional torus

open access: yes, 2015
We produce explicit low-discrepancy infinite sequences which can be used to approximate the integral of a smooth periodic function restricted to a convex domain with positive curvature in R^2.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Simultaneous Approximation for Generalized Srivastava-Gupta Operators

open access: yesJournal of Function Spaces, 2015
We introduce a new Stancu type generalization of Srivastava-Gupta operators to approximate integrable functions on the interval 0,∞ and estimate the rate of convergence for functions having derivatives of bounded variation.

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Higher order pair corrections to electron-positron annihilation

open access: yes, 2005
Radiative corrections due to pair production in process of electron-positron annihilation are considered. The main attention is paid to the corrections of the third order. Simultaneous emission of photons and pairs is taken into account.

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

The ground state energy of the weakly interacting Bose gas at high density

open access: yes, 2008
We prove the Lee-Huang-Yang formula for the ground state energy of the 3D Bose gas with repulsive interactions described by the exponential function, in a simultaneous limit of weak coupling and high density.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.
