Effect of Local Recrystallized Grains on the Low Cycle Fatigue Behavior of a Nickel-Based Single Crystal Superalloy

open access: yesCrystals, 2019
This paper aims to understand the effect of local recrystallization (RX) on the low cycle fatigue fracture of a turbine-blade single crystal nickel-based superalloy.

Ni–W diffusion barrier: Its influence on the oxidation behaviour of a β-(Ni,Pt)Al coated fourth generation nickel-base superalloy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A Ni–W base diffusion barrier (DB) has been developed to limit interdiffusion between a fourth generation Ni-base superalloy (MCNG) and a Pt-modified nickel aluminide bondcoat. After long term oxidation, the DB layer permits to reduce the Al depletion in

Microstructure and mechanical properties of a new nickel-based single crystal superalloy

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2020
To obtain higher comprehensive mechanical properties while avoid the adverse effects of Re element on the microstructure and economy of the alloy, a Re-free nickel-based single crystal superalloy is developed based on the Rene N5 single crystal ...

Topologically Closed Packed Phase and Its Interaction with Dislocation Movement in Ni–Based Superalloy during High–Temperature Creep

open access: yesCrystals, 2022
In superalloys, topologically close–packed (TCP) phases, which contain refractory elements, usually significantly influence the mechanical properties. The current work investigates the structure and composition of the TCP phase in an Al–Mo–rich Ni–based ...

Design of variable withdrawal rate for superalloy single-crystal blade fabrication

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2021
Stray grains bring great challenges to the production of superalloy single-crystal blades using the Bridgman method. The height difference between the liquidus isotherms in the airfoil and platform, which is induced by the difference between liquidus ...

Femtosecond laser micromachining of a single-crystal superalloy

open access: yesScripta Materialia, 2004
Investigations on femtosecond laser micromachining of single crystal superalloys with and without plasma-sprayed thermal barrier coatings were conducted under laser fluences ranging from 0.1 J/cm 2 up to 160 J/cm 2 . Micromachining was carried out in air using a titanium:sapphire laser system (O = 780 nm) operating at a repetition rate of 1 kHz and ...

Low Temperature Hot Corrosion Screening of Single Crystal Superalloys [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials, 2018
Single crystal superalloys were screened in Type II molten (Na,K)-sulfate hot corrosion re-coat tests in air +300 ppm SO2 at 700 °C. They exhibited large 20–40 mg/cm2 weight changes, repeated spallation, and non-protective, 25–50 μm thick corrosion layers after 300 h of testing.

Anisotropic Oxidation Resistance in a Ni-Base Single Crystal Superalloy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2015
A study on the anisotropic oxidation resistance in a Ni-base single crystal superalloy was investigated at 1000 °C. Overall, the specimens with (100) face showed a higher oxidation rate compared with the specimens with (110) face.

Characterization of sulfur distribution in Ni-based superalloy and thermal barrier coatings after high temperature oxidation: a SIMS analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Sulfur segregation was characterized by secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) in uncoated single-crystal Ni-based AM1 superalloys with various S contents and on NiPtAl, NiAl and NiPt bondcoats of complete TBC systems.
