We propose and demonstrate a stable single-longitudinal mode (SLM) thulium-doped fiber laser (TDFL) with a Fabry- Pérot (F-P) fiber Bragg grating (FBG) filter and a triple-coupler based double-ring cavity (TC-DRC) filter.

Second Harmonic Generation Enabled by Longitudinal Electric Field Components in Photonic Wire Waveguides [PDF]
We investigate type I second harmonic generation in III-V semiconductor wire waveguides aligned with a crystallographic axis. In this direction, because of the single nonzero tensor element of III-V semiconductors, only frequency conversion by mixing ...

This paper proposes and demonstrates a single-longitudinal-mode thulium-doped fiber laser using a passive triple-coupler ring-based compound-cavity filter (TCR-CC) and a uniform fiber Bragg grating. For the first time, the TCR-CC filter is used to select

Upconversion of optical signals with multi-longitudinal-mode pump lasers
Multi-longitudinal-mode lasers have been believed to be good candidates as pump sources for optical frequency conversion. However, we present a semi-classical model for frequency conversion of optical signals with a multimode pump laser, which shows that

Short cavity InGaAsP/InP lasers with dielectric mirrors [PDF]
Short cavity length (38 µm) lasers have been fabricated using a recently developed microcleavage technique. SiO2-amorphous Si multilayer coatings have been evaported on the lasers to obtain high reflectivity mirrors. The lasers have current thresholds as

A stable and tunable parity-time (PT) symmetric single-longitudinal-mode fiber laser using a nonreciprocal Sagnac loop is proposed, which is experimentally and numerically demonstrated. The nonreciprocal Sagnac loop only including a 3-dB optical coupler (

Electron-vibron coupling in suspended nanotubes
We consider the electron-vibron coupling in suspended nanotube quantum dots. Modelling the tube as an elastic medium, we study the possible coupling mechanism for exciting the stretching mode in a single-electron-transistor setup.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
