Gut microbiota of migrating wild rabbit fish (Siganus guttatus) larvae have low spatial and temporal variability [PDF]
We investigated the gut microbiota of rabbit fish larvae at three locations in Vietnam (ThuanAn-northern, QuangNam-intermediate, BinhDinh-southern sampling site) over a three-year period. In the wild, the first food for rabbit fish larvae remains unknown,

The conjugation states of bile acids (BAs) have been demonstrated to affect BAs regulatory functions. This study aimed to investigate the effects of conjugated or non‐conjugated BA additions on growth performance, liver health, and BA metabolism in pearl gentian grouper (Epinephelus lanceolatus♂ × E.

The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of varying levels of defatted mealworm as a substitute for fish meal on the growth, intestinal health, and intestinal microflora of juvenile pikeperch (Sander lucioperca). Juveniles were fed diets containing 54% protein and 12% lipid over an 8‐week period, with defatted mealworms replacing 0%, 25%, 50%

Social Learning of Acquiring Novel Feeding Habit in Mandarin Fish (Siniperca chuatsi) [PDF]
Social learning plays important roles in gaining new foraging skills and food preferences. However, the potential role and molecular mechanism of social learning in acquiring new feeding habits is less clear in fish. In the present study, we examined the success rate of feeding habit domestication from live prey fish to dead prey fish, as well as the ...

Digestive aspartic proteases from sábalo (Prochilodus lineatus): Characterization and application for collagen extraction [PDF]
Acid proteases from sábalo stomach mucosa were recovered using salting-out procedure. This single step produced an enzyme extract purified 1.8-fold over the crude extract with a recovery of 45.1% of its initial proteolytic activity.

This study evaluated the effects of replacing trash fish (TF) with formulated feeds in tiger puffer (Takifugu rubripes) on the growth performance, liver and serum biochemical indices, flesh quality, and metabolomics. Fish (39.6 ± 0.2 g) were fed TF, commercial feed (CF), and self‐formulated feed (SF) for 8 weeks. Results indicated that CF and SF groups

Mixed lineage kinase domain‐like pseudokinase (MLKL) is a key effector of necroptosis. We identified an MLKL homologue from Hexagrammos otakii, named HoMLKL. The open reading frame (ORF) of HoMLKL contained 1497 nucleotides and encoded a protein with 498 amino acids (Mw = 57.15 kDa). Bioinformatic analysis revealed that HoMLKL is highly conserved.

Comparative Morphology of Digestive Tract Among 11 Different Marine Fish Species
Limited information is available about the digestive tract morphology and function in some marine fish species. Using anatomical methods, this study compared the morphological characteristics of the digestive tract among 11 marine fish species of different taxonomic status, feeding habits and ecological niches.
