Antioxidant Properties of Whey Protein‐Derived Peptides: Radical Scavenging and Cytoprotective Effects

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 10, October 2025.
In this study, whey protein hydrolysate was fractionated and several antioxidant peptides were identified from the fraction with high H‐ORAC activity. These peptides exhibited H‐ORAC, DPPH, and ABTS radical scavenging activity and cytoprotective effects in C2C12 cells.

Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (Nampt) in Lateral Hypothalamus Maintains Skeletal Muscle Functions Through Lactate‐Mediated Calcium Signalling in Male Mice

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 16, Issue 5, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Sarcopenia has become an urgent socioeconomic problem in rapidly aging societies. The pathogenesis of age‐associated sarcopenia is not fully understood and no effective therapeutic strategies have been developed to date. Recent studies have suggested the importance of the functional linkage between the brain and skeletal muscles in ...

Enhancing Muscle Quality: Exploring Leucine and Whey Protein in Sarcopenic Individuals

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 16, Issue 5, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Sarcopenia is characterised by a decline in the skeletal muscle mass with increasing age. This poses many challenges to the health and independence of older individuals. New and emerging studies have focused on supplementing leucine‐enriched whey protein and resistance training in older adults to mitigate the effects of sarcopenia ...
