A general model fitting coleoid cephalopod growth as a function of time and temperature to a single curve

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 3, Issue 6, Page 539-549, December 2023., 2023
1. A novel general model has been developed to fit biomass growth data of coleoid cephalopods as a function of time and temperature. 2. The model calculates when the growth curve inflection occurs and when the maximum size is reached. 3. When the model was parameterized as a function of temperature on Octopus maya fitness, it confirmed the optimal ...

Social justice and migrant children: Exploring the design and implementation of education policies for migrant children in China

open access: yesRegional Science Policy &Practice, Volume 15, Issue 9, Page 1941-1955, December 2023., 2023
Abstract Drawn from 14 educational policy documents and 26 interviews with educators of internal migrant children in China, this paper examines the design and implementation of educational policy for Chinese internal migrant children in the past three decades through the theoretical lens of social justice.

How Coordinated Capitalism Adapts to the Knowledge Economy: Different Upskilling Strategies in Germany and Switzerland

open access: yesSwiss Political Science Review, Volume 29, Issue 4, Page 355-378, December 2023., 2023
Abstract The rise of the knowledge economy challenges coordinated models of capitalism by requiring their skill formation systems to produce a workforce with higher skills. This paper examines how coordinated capitalism adapts to upskilling pressures by jointly studying general education and vocational education and training (VET) at both upper ...

Reverse Causal Nexus between Pro‐Poor Policies and Income Inequality in Kenya

open access: yesRegional Science Policy &Practice, Volume 15, Issue 6, Page 1163-1181, August 2023., 2023
Abstract Different developing economies are encountering various regional challenges associated with income inequality. However, several contributing factors to inequality and access to opportunities, such as a quality education system, have been identified as the key factors.

Liberating trails and travel routes in Gitxsan and Wet'suwet'en Territories from the tyrannies of heritage resource management regimes

open access: yesAmerican Anthropologist, Volume 125, Issue 2, Page 361-376, June 2023., 2023
Abstract Despite their unmistakable significance in regional histories and unique roles in cultural transmission and traditions, Indigenous trail systems are frequently ignored in non‐Indigenous heritage resource management regimes. These regulatory regimes often require that heritage have discrete spatial and temporal boundaries and predefined ...

A variational modification of the Harmonic Balance method to obtain approximate Floquet exponents

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, Volume 46, Issue 8, Page 8956-8974, 30 May 2023., 2023
We propose a modification of a method based on Fourier analysis to obtain the Floquet characteristic exponents for periodic homogeneous linear systems, which shows a high precision. This modification uses a variational principle to find the correct Floquet exponents among the solutions of an algebraic equation.

The Effect of Classroom Composition and Size on Learning Outcomes for Italian and Immigrant Students in High School

open access: yesJournal of Educational, Cultural and Psychological Studies, 2018
Students cannot change the composition and the size of the classroom they attend, and the effect of these variables on achievement is a source of educational inequality. In this study, based on a representative sample of Italian high school students (N =

A modified Lyapunov method and its applications to ODE

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, Volume 46, Issue 2, Page 1651-1666, 30 January 2023., 2023
Here, we propose a method to obtain local analytic approximate solutions of ordinary differential equations with variable coefficients, or even some nonlinear equations, inspired in the Lyapunov method, where instead of polynomial approximations, we use truncated Fourier series with variable coefficients as approximate solutions.
