The relationship between watermelon consumption and sarcopenia in an elderly general population: findings from the Tianjin chronic low-grade systemic inflammation and health study

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
BackgroundSarcopenia, a progressive skeletal muscle disorder characterized by accelerated loss of muscle mass, strength, and function, affects 10–16% of elderly individuals globally, posing a significant public health challenge.

Pain and Patient‐Reported Physical Function Did Not Differ Among Body Composition Profiles in Patients With Hip Osteoarthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective To explore whether higher body fat and lower lean mass are associated with greater pain and worse patient‐reported physical function in individuals with hip osteoarthritis (OA). A secondary aim was to examine whether pain and patient‐reported physical function differ according to four body composition profiles: high body fat, low lean mass ...

A review and empirical findings of fasciae and muscle interactions in low back pain

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
BackgroundLow Back Pain (LBP) is a global musculoskeletal disorder affecting quality of life, with 90% of cases categorized as nonspecific, indicating that the underlying cause is unknown. One of the current treatment modalities that physiotherapists use

Obesity Subtypes and Longitudinal Trajectories of Function Over Seven Years of Follow‐Up: Data From the Multicenter Osteoarthritis Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Obesity, defined by body mass index (BMI) ≥30 kg/m2, is a risk factor for functional limitations in people with knee osteoarthritis (OA). However, function varies among such individuals. Our objective was to evaluate the implications of obesity subtypes on longitudinal patterns of physical functioning in people with or at risk for knee OA ...

Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Variable Stiffness Flexure Structures Enabled by Phase‐Change Gallium and Adhesive Interfacial Locking for Soft Robotic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A flexure‐based variable stiffness structure is developed by integrating phase‐change modulation and adhesive interfacial locking of gallium. The design enables a wide stiffness variability, transitioning from soft, flexible behavior to rigid, load‐supporting performance.

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Comparison of the Alterations of Gene Expression Related to Signaling Pathways of Synthesis and Degradation of Skeletal Muscle Protein Induced by Two Exercise Training Protocols

open access: yesMajallah-i Dānishgāh-i ̒Ulūm-i Pizishkī-i Qum, 2019
Background and Objectives: Skeletal muscle mass depends on the balance between synthesis and degradation of muscle protein, which changes with aging and disease. The aim of the present reserch was to examine the effects of two exercise training protocols
