Some Statistical Aspects of the Truncated Multivariate Skew-t Distribution
The multivariate skew-t distribution plays an important role in statistics since it combines skewness with heavy tails, a very common feature in real-world data.

Weighing the Cosmological Energy Contents with Weak Gravitational Lensing [PDF]
Bernardeau et al. (1997), using perturbation theory, showed that the skewness of the large-scale lensing-convergence, or projected mass density, could be used to constrain $\Omega_m$, the matter content of the universe.

Skewness of elliptic flow fluctuations [PDF]
Using event-by-event hydrodynamic calculations, we find that the fluctuations of the elliptic flow ($v_2$) in the reaction plane have a negative skew. We compare the skewness of $v_2$ fluctuations to that of initial eccentricity fluctuations.

Mean-Variance Optimization Is a Good Choice, But for Other Reasons than You Might Think
Mean-variance portfolio optimization is more popular than optimization procedures that employ downside risk measures such as the semivariance, despite the latter being more in line with the preferences of a rational investor.

Parent‐to‐Child Information Disclosure in Pediatric Oncology
ABSTRACT Background Despite professional consensus regarding the importance of open communication with pediatric cancer patients about their disease, actual practice patterns of disclosure are understudied. Extant literature suggests a significant proportion of children are not told about their diagnosis/prognosis, which is purported to negatively ...

On homogeneous skewness of unimodal distributions [PDF]
We introduce a new concept of skewness for unimodal continuous distributions which is built on the asymmetry of the density function around its mode. The asymmetry is captured through a skewness function.

Skew Convolutional Codes [PDF]
A new class of convolutional codes, called skew convolutional codes, that extends the class of classical fixed convolutional codes, is proposed. Skew convolutional codes can be represented as periodic time-varying convolutional codes but have a description as compact as fixed convolutional codes. Designs of generator and parity check matrices, encoders,

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...
