The Skinny on Low-fat and Fat-free Milk and Milk Products

open access: yesEDIS, 2011
Whether you are young or old, consuming fat-free and low-fat milk products every day is important for good health. This 5-page fact sheet highlights the purpose of including foods from the Milk group in the diet and the daily amounts needed for children ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Boomerang Connectivity Table Revisited. Application to SKINNY and AES

open access: yesIACR Transactions on Symmetric Cryptology, 2019
The boomerang attack is a variant of differential cryptanalysis which regards a block cipher E as the composition of two sub-ciphers, i.e., E = E1 o E0, and which constructs distinguishers for E with probability p2q2 by combining differential trails for ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Flavor-symmetry Breaking with Charged Probes

open access: yes, 2011
We discuss the recombination of brane/anti-brane pairs carrying $D3$ brane charge in $AdS_5 \times S^5$. These configurations are dual to co-dimension one defects in the ${\cal N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills description.

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Emerging role of ARHGAP29 in melanoma cell phenotype switching

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study gives first insights into the role of ARHGAP29 in malignant melanoma. ARHGAP29 was revealed to be connected to tumor cell plasticity, promoting a mesenchymal‐like, invasive phenotype and driving tumor progression. Further, it modulates cell spreading by influencing RhoA/ROCK signaling and affects SMAD2 activity. Rho GTPase‐activating protein

Gut microbiota diversity is prognostic in metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this exploratory study, we investigated the relationship between the gut microbiota and outcome in patients with metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer, treated in a randomized clinical trial with chemotherapy alone or chemotherapy in combination with immune checkpoint blockade.

Randomized algorithms for distributed computation of principal component analysis and singular value decomposition

open access: yes, 2018
Randomized algorithms provide solutions to two ubiquitous problems: (1) the distributed calculation of a principal component analysis or singular value decomposition of a highly rectangular matrix, and (2) the distributed calculation of a low-rank ...

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.
