Summary Human papillomavirus (HPV) type 42 is a rare HPV type currently classified as “low‐risk” and belongs to the alpha genus. It has primarily been detected in benign vulvar papillomas and is predominantly associated with benign lesions such as anogenital warts.

We report an unusual case of skull metastasis secondary to thyroid carcinoma in an adolescent girl. The 18-year-old presented with an occipital scalp swelling of 5 years' duration. She reported having thyroid surgery in mainland China 10 years previously.

Summary This case report is of educational value and contributes to the literature because it describes a unique death after anaesthesia due to cardiac tamponade from a rare cardiac neoplasm. In trying to diagnose the origin of chronic sinusitis, a geriatric mule mare was anaesthetised and during recovery, died acutely.
