Sliding droplets of Xanthan solutions: A joint experimental and numerical study [PDF]

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal E, 2015
We have investigated the sliding of droplets made of solutions of Xanthan, a stiff rodlike polysaccharide exhibiting a non-newtonian behavior, notably characterized by a shear-rate dependence of the viscosity. These experimental results are quantitatively compared with those of newtonian fluids (water).

Interface roughness effect on friction map under fretting contact conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In many industrial applications where fretting damage is observed in the contact (e.g. rotor/blade, electrical contacts, assembly joint, axe/wheel, clutch) the external loadings or geometry design cannot be changed. Therefore, the surface preparation and

Sliding Phenomena in Intermittent Rock Joint

open access: yesPeriodica Polytechnica Civil Engineering, 2016
Rock bridges in rock masses would increase the bearing capacity of Non-persistent discontinuities. In this paper the effect of ratio of rock bridge surface to joint surface, rock bridge shape and number of rock bridge on failure behaviour of intermittent rock joint were investigated. A total of 18 various models with dimensions of 15 cm × 15 cm × 15 cm

Online identification and nonlinear control of the electrically stimulated quadriceps muscle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A new approach for estimating nonlinear models of the electrically stimulated quadriceps muscle group under nonisometric conditions is investigated. The model can be used for designing controlled neuro-prostheses. In order to identify the muscle dynamics

Multi-Fault Diagnosis of an Aero-Engine Control System Using Joint Sliding Mode Observers

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
An aero-engine is a complex aerodynamic thermal system, which can operate in extreme environments for long periods. It is crucial to diagnose any faults of the aero-engine control system accurately.

Three-Dimensional Combined Finite-Discrete Element Modeling of Shear Fracture Process in Direct Shearing of Rough Concrete–Rock Joints

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
A three-dimensional combined finite-discrete element element method (FDEM), parallelized by a general-purpose graphic-processing-unit (GPGPU), was applied to identify the fracture process of rough concrete–rock joints under direct shearing.

TRIGEN INTERTAN Intramedullary Nail Versus Sliding Hip Screw [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Both intramedullary nails and sliding hip screws are used with good results in the treatment of intertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fractures.
