Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

Transient seepage and slope stability analysis for rainfall induced landslide: a case study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A transient seepage and slope stability analyses were carried out for a case of rainfall-induced landslide in Air Laya Indonesia . The landslide occurred in December 2002 on a dumping area of an open coal mining site.

Improving predictive power of physically based rainfall-induced shallow landslide models: a probabilistic approach

open access: yes, 2014
Distributed models to forecast the spatial and temporal occurrence of rainfall-induced shallow landslides are based on deterministic laws. These models extend spatially the static stability models adopted in geotechnical engineering, and adopt an ...

Real‐time assay of ribonucleotide reductase activity with a fluorescent RNA aptamer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ribonucleotide reductases (RNR) synthesize DNA building blocks de novo, making them crucial in DNA replication and drug targeting. FLARE introduces the first single‐tube real‐time coupled RNR assay, which enables isothermal tracking of RNR activity at nanomolar enzyme levels and allows the reconstruction of allosteric regulatory patterns and rapid ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Stability analysis of loess fill slope supported by frame prestressed anchors considering tensile strength cut-off

open access: yesScientific Reports
In the stability analysis of loess fill slope, the fissure nature of loess is often ignored, which makes the stability calculation of fill slope too conservative.

Upper Bound Limit Stability Analysis for Soil Slope with Nonuniform Multiparameter Distribution Based on Discrete Algorithm

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2020
Slope stability analysis is a core issue in geotechnical engineering. This paper proposes a method of upper bound limit stability analysis for a slope with multiparameter coordinated variation based on the comprehensive consideration of the nonuniform ...

Structural Analysis of Backfill Highway Subgrade on the Lower Bearing Capacity Foundation Using the Finite Element Method

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2021
The present study is to investigate the stability of the backfill subgrade on the lower bearing capacity foundation. A finite element (FE) model was constructed to simulate the high-filled road subjected to the actual self-weight load.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
