In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

BRA-YOLOv10: UAV Small Target Detection Based on YOLOv10

open access: yesDrones
Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) targets are typically small in size, occupy only a limited pixel area, and are often located in complex environments. Existing models, however, tend to overlook smaller targets in complex backgrounds, making it easy to miss ...

RSD-YOLO-Based Small Target Detection in UAV Aerial Images [PDF]

open access: yesJisuanji gongcheng
The RSD-YOLO algorithm, based on YOLOv8s, is proposed to address the challenges of low detection performance, severe occlusion, difficulty of small target feature extraction, and large number of model parameters inherent in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV ...

Facet-based infrared small target detection method

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 2005
The cubic facet model is applied to fit the underlying intensity surface in infrared small target detective procedure. Using the partial derivatives of the fitted surface to make decisions regarding the maximum extremum points is proposed. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is efficient and robust.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Intelligent monitoring of small target detection using YOLOv8

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal
In complex scenes, small target face detection is crucial but often hampered by detection accuracy and efficiency limitations. Our method addresses these challenges by incorporating Gaussian noise, which is key in improving model robustness and ...

Neural specializations for small target detection in insects

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Neurobiology, 2012
Despite being equipped with low-resolution eyes and tiny brains, many insects show exquisite abilities to detect and pursue targets even in highly textured surrounds. Target tracking behavior is subserved by neurons that are sharply tuned to the motion of small high-contrast targets.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Spin-Dependent Neutralino-Nucleus Scattering for $A \sim 127$ Nuclei

open access: yes, 1997
We perform nuclear shell model calculations of the neutralino-nucleus cross section for several nuclei in the A = 127 region. Each of the four nuclei considered is a primary target in a direct dark matter detection experiment.
