Thought suppression and smoking cessation

Deliberate suppression of intrusive thoughts has previously been shown to be associated with higher levels of intrusion compared to monitoring without suppression. In an attempt to apply this paradigm to people attempting smoking reduction and cessation, it was demonstrated that intrusive thoughts about smoking occur frequently.

Situational suppression of cigarette smoking

Cigarette smoking rate was observed during work and recreation while subjects participated in two long-term residential experiments. In both experiments, the smoking rate observed during work was markedly lower than the smoking rate observed during recreation. In Experiment 1, activities were performed in successive 1-hour blocks.

Suppression of the Desquamating Effect of Smoking on the Human Endothelium by Hydroxyethylrutosides

In a group of volunteers, smoking two cigarettes produced a significant increase in the number of circulating endothelial cells. This effect was suppressed in another group by a preventive oral administration of a hydroxyethylrutoside preparation. The results fully confirmed our earlier experimental findings in rats.
