Sodium‐sodium exchange through the sodium pump: the roles of ATP and ADP. [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, 1979
1. We have developed a procedure for preparing resealed red cell ghosts that contain ADP but very little ATP. 2. The procedure involves (i) lysis of the cells in a very large volume of lysing solution, (ii) resuspension of the ghosts in a small volume, (iii) the incorporation into the ghosts, before they are resealed, of the adenylate kinase inhibitor ...

Microbial exopolysaccharide production by polyextremophiles in the adaptation to multiple extremes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Polyextremophiles are microorganisms that endure multiple extreme conditions by various adaptation strategies that also include the production of exopolysaccharides (EPSs). This review provides an integrated perspective on EPS biosynthesis, function, and regulation in these organisms, emphasizing their critical role in survival and highlighting their ...

Reactions of (-)-sparteine with alkali metal HMDS complexes : conventional meets the unconventional [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Conventional (-)-sparteine adducts of lithium and sodium 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexamethyldisilazide (HMDS) were prepared and characterised, along with an unexpected and unconventional hydroxyl-incorporated sodium sodiate, [(-)-sparteine·Na(-HMDS)Na·(-)-sparteine]+[

Single cis‐elements in brassinosteroid‐induced upregulated genes are insufficient to recruit both redox states of the BIL1/BZR1 DNA‐binding domain

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phytohormone brassinosteroid‐induced gene regulation by the transcription factor BIL1/BZR1 involves redox‐dependent DNA‐binding alternation and interaction with the transcription factor PIF4. The reduced BIL1/BZR1 dimer binds preferred cis‐elements, while oxidation alters its oligomerization state and disrupts DNA‐binding ability.

Performance of nanocrystalline Ni3N as a negative electrode for sodium-ion batteries

open access: yes, 2013
Nickel nitride is synthesised by high temperature ammonolysis of nickel(II) hexamine and tris(ethylenediamine) salts. Its electrochemical characteristics are examined in half-cells vs. lithium and sodium.

Structural dynamics of the plant hormone receptor ETR1 in a native‐like membrane environment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The present study unveils the structural and signaling dynamics of ETR1, a key plant ethylene receptor. Using an optimized nanodisc system and solution NMR, we captured full‐length ETR1 in a native‐like membrane environment. Our findings reveal dynamic domain uncoupling and Cu(I)‐induced rigidification, providing the first evidence of metal‐triggered ...

The influence of lithium oxybutirate on the rhythmic organization of daily dynamics of Na+, K+, Ca2+ and Li+ contents in blood, brain and urine of rats during summer solstice

open access: yesБюллетень сибирской медицины, 2005
Aimed at studying the influence of lithium oxybutirate on rhythmic organization of daily dynamics of Na+, K+, Ca2+ and Li+ contents in blood, brain and urine of rats during summer solstice, experiments on 84 male rats were performed.

Integrin-mediated membrane blebbing is dependent on the NHE1 and NCX1 activities. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Integrin-mediated signal transduction and membrane blebbing have been well studied to modulate cell adhesion, spreading and migration^1-6^. However, the relationship between membrane blebbing and integrin signaling has not been explored.

Phase segregation in NaxCoO2 for large Na contents

open access: yes, 2010
We have investigated a set of sodium cobaltates (NaxCoO2) samples with various sodium content (0.67 \le x \le 0.75) using Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (NQR). The four different stable phases and an intermediate one have been recognized.

C9orf72 ALS‐causing mutations lead to mislocalization and aggregation of nucleoporin Nup107 into stress granules

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutations in the C9orf72 gene represent the most common genetic cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a fatal neurodegenerative disease. Using patient‐derived neurons and C. elegans models, we find that the nucleoporin Nup107 is dysregulated in C9orf72‐associated ALS. Conversely, reducing Nup107 levels mitigates disease‐related changes.
