Investigation of the Uniformity of Gel Shrinkage by Imaging Tracer Particles Using X‐Ray Microtomography

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
A novel method for tracking structural changes in gels using widely accessible microcomputed tomography is presented and validated for various hydro‐, alco‐, and aerogels. The core idea of the method is to track positions of micrometer‐sized tracer particles entrapped in the gel and relate them to the density of the gel network.

The effect of nanocoatings enriched with essential oils on ‘Rocha’ pear long storage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The effect of coating 'Rocha' pears with alginate-based nanoemulsions enriched with lemongrass essential oil (LG) or citral (Cit) was investigated. Fruit were treated with the nanoemulsions: sodium alginate 2% (w/w) + citral 1% (w/w) (Cit1%); sodium ...

Preparation of injectable sodium alginate/ poloxamer composite hydrogel for sustained drug release

open access: yesCailiao gongcheng, 2020
Poloxamer is a thermo-sensitive synthetic polymer that can achieve sol-gel transition with temperature change, but its relative molecular mass is low, and the hydrogel structure is difficult to maintain for a long time.

Effect of pH on the complex coacervation and on the formation of layers of sodium alginate and PDADMAC [PDF]

open access: yesLangmuir 36 (10) 2510 - 2523 (2020), 2020
In this study, we investigated the thermodynamic features of a system based on oppositely charged polyelectrolytes, sodium alginate, and poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDADMAC) at different pH values. Additionally, a comparison of the effects of the thermodynamic parameters on the growth of the layers based on the same polymers is presented ...

Daily ingestion of alginate reduces energy intake in free-living subjects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Sodium alginate is a seaweed-derived fibre that has previously been shown to moderate appetite in models of acute feeding. The mechanisms underlying this effect may include slowed gastric clearance and attenuated uptake from the small intestine. In order
