Nitrene Transfer Catalyzed by a Non-Heme Iron Enzyme and Enhanced by Non-Native Small-Molecule Cofactors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Transition-metal catalysis is a powerful tool for the construction of chemical bonds. Here we show that a non-heme iron enzyme can catalyze olefin aziridination and nitrene C–H insertion, and that these activities can be improved by directed evolution ...

Sacrificial Biofabrication for Vascularization: Concept, Materials, Technologies, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Vasculature is indispensable for tissue viability in regenerative medicine. The sacrificial biofabrication enables precise fabrication of vascular channels by using temporary templates that are subsequently removed. This review defines the concept and delves into sacrificial materials, surrounding materials, fabrication technologies, and biomedical ...

Optically pure heterobimetallic helicates from self-assembly and click strategies [PDF]

open access: yes
Single diastereomer, diamagnetic, octahedral Fe(II) tris chelate complexes are synthesised that contain three pendant pyridine proligands pre-organised for coordination to a second metal.

Triazolinediones as highly enabling synthetic tools [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Triazolinediones (TADs) are unique reagents in organic synthesis that have also found wide applications in different research disciplines, in spite of their somewhat "exotic" reputation.

Bacteria‐Responsive Nanostructured Drug Delivery Systems for Targeted Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bacteria‐responsive nanocarriers are designed to release antimicrobials only in the presence of infection‐specific cues. This selective activation ensures drug release precisely at the site of infection, avoiding premature or indiscriminate release, and enhancing efficacy.

Effectiveness of Sodium Azide Alone Compared to Sodium Azide in Combination with Methyl Nitrosurea for Rice Mutagenesis

open access: yesPlant Breeding and Biotechnology, 2016
Rice seeds of the temperate japonica cultivar Kitaake were mutagenized with sodium azide alone and in combination with methyl nitrosourea. Using the reduced representation sequencing method Restriction Enzyme Sequence Comparative Analysis (RESCAN), the mutation densities, types and local sequence context were determined in the resulting M2 generation ...

An Injection‐Molded Modified Silicone Rubber for Cancer‐on‐Chip Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 6, March 18, 2025.
This study describes the characterization and application of an injection‐molded functionalized PDMS fluidic insert for the commercially available Micronit system. Modified PDMS can accommodate cell culture and is able to covalently bind proteins for long‐lasting coatings under flow‐conditions.

High throughput synthesis of 2,5-substituted indoles using a titanium carbenoid bearing boronate functionality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A titanium benzylidene complex bearing a boronate group converted resin-bound esters into enol ethers. Suzuki cross-coupling with aryl iodides followed by cleavage with acid completed the solid-phase synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted N-Boc-indoles.

Scalable Fabrication of Electrochemical Sensors Via Inkjet Printing of Functionalized Graphene for Pesticide Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Inkjet printing enables uniform, reproducible, and stable deposition of nitrogen‐doped graphene acid (NGA) on screen‐printed electrodes, outperforming traditional drop‐casting. The resulting electrochemical sensor exhibits enhanced sensitivity, long‐term stability, and efficient imidacloprid detection.

Electrocatalytic Dehydrogenative Lactonization of Benzylic Alcohols: A Sustainable Access to Phthalides via N‐hydroxyphthalimide Mediation

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
A mild, scalable electrocatalytic method for direct lactonization of benzylic alcohols to phthalides using N‐hydroxyphthalimide as a redox mediator is reported. This metal‐free process proceeds via a phthalimide‐N‐oxyl‐mediated hydrogen atom transfer mechanism, shows broad scope with good to excellent yields, and enables late‐stage functionalizations ...
