Caffeine Sodium Benzoate for Electroconvulsive Therapy Augmentation

The Journal of ECT, 2018
Objectives Because of an ongoing manufacturer shortage of injectable caffeine sodium benzoate (CSB), patients at our health system were given CSB compounded in-house to increase seizure response during electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Therefore, we aimed to evaluate its effectiveness and safety as an ECT augmentation agent.

Fixed drug eruption from sodium benzoate

Contact Dermatitis, 2003
We report a fixed drug eruption caused by a syrup containing sodium benzoate. Our patient gave a positive reaction to a patch test and to a provocation test after 15 h ingestion, but no patch test reaction in the interdigital area where the patient had previous lesions.

The effect of sodium benzoate on ammonia toxicity in rats

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1986
At 9.5 mmoles/kg body weight, sodium benzoate sharply increased mortality in rats subsequently challenged with ammonia. Fasted animals were less sensitive to potentiation of ammonia toxicity by benzoate than were fed animals. At 2.5 mmoles/kg body weight, benzoate was observed to protect fasted animals against ammonia toxicity.

The use of sodium 11C-benzoate in renal visualization

The International Journal of Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 1969
Abstract Carbon-11 is a positron emitting radionuclide with a half-life of 20·4 min. The rapid decay permits the administration of relatively large quantities of 11C-labeled compounds with small radiation dose to the patient. The emission of positrons by carbon-11 provides for great discrimination in determining its localization in the body, because ...

Complexation of Theophylline with Sodium Benzoate: An NMR Study

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1974
The interaction of theophylline with sodium benzoate was examined by NMR to understand the mode of interaction. Chemical shifts of theophylline protons were determined as a function of sodium benzoate concentration in D2O at 30°. Several different concentrations of theophylline were used. Signals of both methyl groups undergo significant upfield shifts,

Activity coefficients of sodium benzoate and potassium benzoate in water at 298.15 K

Fluid Phase Equilibria, 2003
Abstract Industrial additives, like sodium benzoate and potassium benzoate, are used in low concentrations in aqueous solutions. However, in general, the ionic strength of the aqueous media is high. The Pitzer model allows the determination of activity coefficients in aqueous media.

Sodium benzoate for the treatment of behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD): A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, 6-week trial

Journal of Psychopharmacology, 2019
Objective: Sodium benzoate, a D-amino acid oxidase (DAAO) inhibitor, improved cognitive function of early-phase Alzheimer’s disease (AD) after 24-week treatment. This study examined benzoate treatment for behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia

Effect of a Sodium Benzoate‐Sodium Bicarbonate Compound on Dental Plaque Formation

Journal of Periodontology, 1993
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of a sodium benzoate‐sodium bicarbonate (SBSB) compound on dental plaque formation and developing gingivitis. Eighteen subjects were given a prophylaxis and instruction in oral hygiene to establish plaque‐free conditions and gingival health for the study baseline.
