The Mechanism of Hemolysis of Erythrocytes by Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2005
Abstract: The results of a study of vesicular‐hemolytic action of anionic detergent sodium dodecyl sulfate on human erythrocytes are presented. Possible molecular events underlying detergent‐induced pore formation in the erythrocyte membrane are discussed.

The amperometric biosensor for detection of sodium dodecyl sulfate

Analytica Chimica Acta, 1997
Abstract A Pseudomonas rathonis T-based amperometric biosensor was constructed for detection of anionic surfactants. Microorganisms contained the plasmid for surfactant degradation. The sensor was highly sensitive to sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and volgonat. The lower limit of SDS detection was within a range of 0.25–0.75 mg 1 −1 . The measurement

Location of ethanol in sodium dodecyl sulfate aggregates

Chinese Journal of Chemistry, 2000
AbstractThe hexagonal liquid crystalline phase of SDS (Sodium dodecyl sulfate)/H2O system changes into lamellar liquid crystal and the effective length of surfactant molecule d0/2 in the lamellar liquid crystal decreases with the addition of ethanol.

On the Stability of Aqueous Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate Solutions

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 1993
An aqueous, surface-chemically pure solution of sodium-n-dodecyl sulfate, which did not reveal any measurable dynamic surface tension, was kept under air at daylight and room temperature for more than three years. After this long-term storage the surface tension was found to be almost that of the previous measurement. However, a small but distinct time

Polydispersity of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS) Micelles [PDF]

open access: possibleLangmuir, 1999
It has been argued previously that the effect of NaCl on the aggregation number of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) micelles is inconsistent with the observation that SDS micelles are fairly monodisperse. This inconsistency is resolved by arguing that the “effective micellar degree of dissociation”, α, decreases with increasing aggregation number to an ...
