The Potential of Mushroom Seasoning as an Alternative to Monosodium Glutamate: Market Survey, Consumer Survey, and Sensory Evaluation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Food Quality and Hazards Control
Background: Mushroom presents a potential natural alternative to Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) as food flavoring, as it imparts a similar umami taste and offering health benefits when incorporated into food products.

Elaboration of garlic and salt spice with reduced sodium intake

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2014
Garlic and salt spice is widely used in Brazilian cookery, but it has a high sodium content; as high sodium intake has been strongly correlated to the incidence of chronic diseases.

Quantized Dehydration and the Determinants of Selectivity in the NaChBac Bacterial Sodium Channel [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
A discrete electrostatic/diffusion model has been developed to describe the selective permeation of ion channels, based on ionic Coulomb blockade (ICB) and quantised dehydration (QD). It has been applied to describe selectivity phenomena measured in the bacterial NaChBac sodium channel and some of its mutants.

A Wireless Cortical Surface Implant for Diagnosing and Alleviating Parkinson's Disease Symptoms in Freely Moving Animals

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A wireless cortical surface implant employing graphene electrode arrays diagnoses and alleviates Parkinson's disease symptoms in freely moving animals. The device continuously monitors cortical activity and delivers targeted stimulation, restoring beta–gamma and delta oscillations.

Cyclooxygenase Inhibitors Attenuate Augmented Glutamate Release in Organum Vasculosum Laminae Terminalis and Fever Induced by Staphylococcal Enterotoxin A

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2004
Both the hyperthermia and augmented glutamate release in the organum vasculosum laminae terminalis (OVLT) after an intravenous dose (30 ng/kg) of staphylococcal enterotoxin A (SEA) were significantly reduced by pretreatment with intravenous ...

Circadian Regulation of Glutamate Transporters

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2018
L-glutamate is the major excitatory amino acid in the mammalian central nervous system (CNS). This neurotransmitter is essential for higher brain functions such as learning, cognition and memory.

Development of Itaconate Polymers Microparticles for Intracellular Regulation of Pro‐Inflammatory Macrophage Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops itaconate‐based polymer microparticles (IA‐MPs) for macrophage‐targeted intracellular delivery, overcoming the limitations of traditional itaconate administration. IA‐MPs achieve controlled release through phagocytosis, reducing pro‐inflammatory cytokine expression and reprogramming macrophage metabolism toward glycolysis.

Multiple Routes for Glutamate Receptor Trafficking: Surface Diffusion and Membrane Traffic Cooperate to Bring Receptors to Synapses [PDF]

open access: yesScience's STKE (electronic resource) : signal transduction knowledge environment 327 (21/03/2006) 13, 2007
Trafficking of glutamate receptors into and out of synapses is critically involved in the plasticity of excitatory synaptic transmission. Endocytosis and exocytosis of receptors have initially been thought to account alone for this trafficking. However, membrane proteins also traffic through surface lateral diffusion in the plasma membrane. We describe
