Effects of sodium selenite on the cytotoxicity of dental amalgam

Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, 1981
Abstract The antagonistic action of sodium selenite against dental amalgam-induced cytolysis in the L cells was studied using the 51Cr-release assay and photomicroscopic observations. Three pieces of dental amalgams (2.12 ± 0.04 cm2) were immersed in 1 ml of culture medium composed of Eagle's minimum essential medium, 10% ( v v ) calf serum, and

Rationale for the treatment of cancer with sodium selenite

Medical Hypotheses, 2005
Epidemiological studies conducted during several decades of the last century have demonstrated the importance of sufficient nutritional supply of selenium (Se) for human health. More importantly, low blood Se levels were found to be associated with an increased incidence and mortality from various types of cancers.

Sodium selenite as modulator of red cell shape

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1994
Addition of sodium selenite to human red cells, under ATP deplete conditions, induces a rapid oxidation of both glutathione and protein sulphydryl groups. Selenite also inhibits the discocyte-echinocyte shape transformation and stops the process before completion.

Toxicological effects of sodium selenite in swiss mice

Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health, 1981
Se as sodium selenite was administered by gavage (three consecutive times) and as drinking water supplements for 46 d to male and female Swiss mice. With respect to survival in 7-wk-old mice, Se was less toxic in males than in females when gavaged. Drinking water supplements of 1-64 ppm Se resulted in 1 male and 1 female death in mice first given Se at

The anti-leukaemic effects and the mechanism of sodium selenite

Leukemia Research, 1992
The anti-proliferative effects of selenium were studied both in vivo and in vitro. At a selenium concentration of 0.6 micrograms/ml, cells from patients with ALL-L1, L2 and AML-M1, M3 and M5 were more sensitive than cells from patients with CML. Cells from patients with AML-M2, CLL and leukaemic lymphoma were least sensitive.

Bioavailability to Rats of Selenium in Milk of Cows Fed Sodium Selenite or Selenited Barley

Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism, 1986
The nutritional availability of Se to rats in two experimental Finnish milks were compared to that in American milk naturally high in Se. The experimental milks had their Se content increased by feeding cows either sodium selenite (selenited milk) or selenited barley (selenited-barley milk).

Esterification of starch with sodium selenite and selenate

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2007
Abstract Granular potato starch was esterified with selenous and selenic acid sodium salts in the microwave assisted solid state reaction. Degree of esterification (DE) in both cases did not exceed 3.01 × 10 −2 . Reaction with selenite provided higher DE.

Sodium Selenite Se 75

JAMA, 1968
Brain scanning, with any of several radioactive pharmaceutical agents, permits the accurate localization of intracranial lesions. Bone scanning, with radioactive strontium, allows the detection of localized disease of the skeleton. However, none of the agents in current use is specific for tumors.

[Relevance of the radioprotective effect of sodium selenite].

Medizinische Klinik (Munich, Germany : 1983), 2000
Based on the mode of action of Na2SeO3 as a radical scavenger in vitro culture experiments using normal human skin fibroblasts and squamous cell carcinoma cells were performed to investigate the potential role of Na2SeO3 as a radioprotector for normal cells. Therefore, comparative studies of combined treatment, i.e.
