A comparison of chitosan-silica and sodium starch glycolate as disintegrants for spheronized extruded microcrystalline cellulose pellets

Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 2011
Chitosan-silica coprecipitate (C-S) has recently been proposed as a tablet disintegrant. In this study we compared it with a 1:1 physical mixture of chitosan and silica (C/S) at the same composition as the coprecipitate, and with the widely used commercial disintegrant sodium starch glycolate (SSG), as regards to its behavior in spheronized extruded ...

The Effect of Molecular Structure on the Function of Sodium Starch Glycolate in wet Granulated Systems

Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 1983
AbstractThe effect of variation in the degree of cross-linkage and extent of substitution on the disintegrant properties of sodium starch glycolate in wet granulated systems has been examined. The rates of mixing shear were evaluated for their effect on the ability of the disintegrants to function after granulation.

Molecular interaction in alginate beads reinforced with sodium starch glycolate or magnesium aluminum silicate, and their physical characteristics

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2005
Diclofenac calcium-alginate (DCA) beads were reinforced with different amounts of sodium starch glycolate (SSG) or magnesium aluminum silicate (MAS) and were prepared using ionotropic gelation method. Complex formation of sodium alginate (SA) and SSG or MAS in calcium-alginate beads was revealed using FTIR spectroscopy.

Formulation of sumatriptan succinate orodispersible tablets using chitosan and sodium starch glycolate for immediate migraine relief.

Pakistan journal of pharmaceutical sciences
Migraine is one of the common neurological disease affecting around 23% of the Pakistani population. Prompt treatment is required to regain the functional ability of patients. The present study was designed to develop sumatriptan succinate orodispersible tablets that would quickly overcome acute migraine episodes using 22 full-factorial design.
