Development of a soft-inflatable exosuit for knee rehabilitation
2017 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS), 2017This paper presents the design, development and preliminary evaluation of a soft-inflatable exosuit for knee rehabilitation. Soft-inflatable actuators made of heat-sealable thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) materials are fabricated in two different beam-like structures (I and O cross-section actuators) and mechanically characterized for their torque ...

Autonomous Soft Exosuit for Hip Extension Assistance
2016In this abstract, we describe a mono-articular soft exosuit to assist with hip extension during overground walking. The system is comprised of a mobile Bowden-cable-driven electrical actuation unit, soft textiles, and a load cell and an inertia measurement unit per leg.

Design and embedded control of a soft elbow exosuit
2018 IEEE International Conference on Soft Robotics (RoboSoft), 2018The use of soft materials to transmit power to the human body has numerous advantages, amongst which safety and kinematic transparency stand out. In previous work we showed that a tethered fabric-based exosuit for the elbow joint, driven by an electric motor through a Bowden cable transmission, reduces the muscular effort associated with flexion ...

A soft wearable elbow exosuit: design considerations
2018In this chapter we describe an alternative approach for assisting motion of the upper limbs using a wearable robotic device: designing a frame made of fabric (i.e., an exosuit) instead of metal reduces the weight, power requirements, and cosmetic impact of the system. Specifically, we focus on the design of an exosuit for assisting elbow movements.

Force Transfer Characterization of a Soft Exosuit for Gait Assistance
Volume 5A: 39th Mechanisms and Robotics Conference, 2015Recently, there has been a growing interest in moving away from traditional rigid exoskeletons towards soft exosuits that can provide a variety of advantages including a reduction in both the weight carried by the wearer and the inertia experienced as the wearer flexes and extends their joints.
