Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Origin of Terahertz Soft-Mode Nonlinearities in Ferroelectric Perovskites

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2021
Soft modes are intimately linked to structural instabilities and are key for the understanding of phase transitions. The soft modes in ferroelectrics, for example, map directly the polar order parameter of a crystal lattice.

Early Clinical, Imaging, and Pathological Characteristics of SRPK3/TTN‐Digenic Myopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective SRPK3/TTN‐digenic myopathy was recently established as a skeletal muscle myopathy caused by digenic inheritance. This study characterizes the early clinical presentation of SRPK3/TTN‐digenic myopathy in one previously reported and seven newly identified pediatric patients.

Comparative Study of Magnetocaloric Properties for Gd^{3+} Compounds with Different Frustrated Lattice Geometries

open access: yesPRX Energy, 2023
As materials with suppressed ordering temperatures and enhanced ground-state entropies, frustrated magnetic oxides are ideal candidates for cryogenic magnetocaloric refrigeration.

Validation of the Pediatric Arthritis Ultrasound Scoring System for the Elbow, Wrist, and Finger Joints in Children With Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We aimed to validate the Pediatric Arthritis Ultrasound Scoring System (PAUSS) for upper extremity joints in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). Methods Children with JIA were evaluated for elbow, wrist, or finger arthritis by clinical examination (CE) and musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS) with images scored according to the ...

Soft-modes in displacive transitions

open access: yesJournal de Physique, 1971
Displacive phase transitions which do not change the size of the unit cell may be classified under two types depending on their order parameter : in the elastic transitions, this is the amplitude of an elastic strain ; it is the amplitude of a relative displacement of the atoms in an optic transition.

Effects of Causal Beliefs About Gout on Public Views About Gout Management: A Randomized Experimental Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Despite well‐described biologic causes, the public views unhealthy lifestyle choices as the primary cause of gout. This study investigated how causal beliefs about gout influence the public's views about its management. Methods In a randomized study, 201 members of the public viewed one of two 2‐minute videos about gout.

Dynamic heterogeneity in hard and soft sphere colloidal glasses

open access: yes, 2012
The nature of dynamic correlations in glasses and jammed soft matter remains a puzzle. Despite the strong increase in viscosity, hard-spheres exhibit only moderate increase of dynamic correlations at the glass transition, while recent experiments on soft-
