Classical Limit for Scalar Fields at High Temperature [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We study real-time correlation functions in scalar quantum field theories at temperature $T=1/\beta$. We show that the behaviour of soft, long wavelength modes is determined by classical statistical field theory.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Perimeter Modes of Nanomechanical Resonators Exhibit Quality Factors Exceeding 10^{9} at Room Temperature

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2022
Systems with low mechanical dissipation are extensively used in precision measurements such as gravitational wave detection, atomic force microscopy, and quantum control of mechanical oscillators via optomechanics and electromechanics.

Soft Modes, Quantum Transport and Kinetic Entropy

open access: yes, 2000
The effects of the propagation of particles which have a finite life-time and an according width in their mass spectrum are discussed in the context of transport descriptions.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Soft phonon modes in rutile TiO$_2$

open access: yes, 2015
The lattice dynamics of TiO$_2$ in the rutile crystal structure was studied by a combination of thermal diffuse scattering, inelastic x-ray scattering and density functional perturbation theory.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Spectroscopy of soft modes and quantum phase transitions in coupled electron bilayers

open access: yes, 2003
Strongly-correlated two-dimensional electrons in coupled semiconductor bilayers display remarkable broken symmetry many-body states under accessible and controllable experimental conditions.

Soft-modes in displacive transitions

open access: yesJournal de Physique, 1971
Displacive phase transitions which do not change the size of the unit cell may be classified under two types depending on their order parameter : in the elastic transitions, this is the amplitude of an elastic strain ; it is the amplitude of a relative displacement of the atoms in an optic transition.

Soft Modes and Relaxor Ferroelectrics [PDF]

open access: yesFerroelectrics, 2009
Relaxor ferroelectrics are difficult to study and understand. The experiment shows that at low energy scattering there is an acoustic mode, an optic mode, dynamic quasi-elastic scattering and strictly elastic scattering as well as Bragg peaks at the zone centre.
