A Soft Amphibious Voxel-Type Quadruped Robot Based on Origami Flexiball of Rhombic Dodecahedron

open access: yesBiomimetics
The research work presents a novel voxel-type soft amphibious robot based on an assembly of origami flexiballs. The geometric and elastic constitutive models of the origami flexiball are theoretically established to elucidate its intricate deformation ...

Physical Intelligence in Small‐Scale Robots and Machines

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Physical intelligence” (PI) empowers biological organisms and artificial machines, especially at the small scales, to perceive, adapt, and even reshape their complex, dynamic, and unstructured operation environments. This review summarizes recent milestones and future directions of PI in small‐scale robots and machines.

Emergent Motility of Self‐Organized Particle‐Giant Unilamellar Vesicle Assembly

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs), when combined with silica particles under alternating electric fields, spontaneously self‐assemble into motile structures. Asymmetric particle decoration induces fluid flows that propel the assemblies, enabling persistent motion and reversible control.

Synchronizing a modular robot colony for cooperative tasks based on intrainter robot communications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The implementation of robotic cooperative tasks such as pushing an object toward a desired destination or manipulating an object using mobile robots or robotic arms requires motion coordination between the robot colony. When a robot is built by the union

Autonomous Hydrogel Actuators Programmed by Endogenous Biochemical Logic for Dual‐Stage Morphing and Drug Release

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printed BSA–PEGDA bilayer actuator performs biochemical logic, bending autonomously in acid and releasing its drug payload only when both acid and pepsin are present. This dual‐stage, enzyme‐gated mechanism enables autonomous catch‐and‐release motion and controlled gastric drug delivery, representing a programmable soft material powered by ...
