Incidence and developmental timing of endosperm failure in post-zygotic isolation between wild tomato lineages [PDF]
Background and AimsDefective hybrid seed development in angiosperms might mediate the rapid establishment of intrinsic post-zygotic isolation between closely related species.

Enzyme activity in bioregulator-treated tomato (Solanum lycopersicon) genotypes
The challenges of using exogenous plant bioregulators to manipulate plant responses by researchers and producers are increasing rapidly. In previous studies, we have demonstrated that 100 mg/l concentration of the bioregulators; indole-acetic acid (IAA), indole butyric acid (IBA) and naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) is suitable for tomato growth in the ...

Reduced fertilization regimes could boost biocontrol service without reducing crop yield
Fertilization level influences pest control effectiveness in tomato crops. High fertilization increases plant growth and aphid density but reduces the performance of the parasitoid Aphidius ervi. In contrast, the predator Adalia bipunctata maintains consistent aphid suppression regardless of fertilization regime.

Do potatoes and tomatoes have a single evolutionary history, and what proportion of the genome supports this history? [PDF]
Background Phylogenies reconstructed with only one or a few independently inherited loci may be unresolved or incongruent due to taxon and gene sampling, horizontal gene transfer, or differential selection and lineage sorting at individual loci.

ABSTRACT Biological control in high tunnel systems can be optimised by matching predator species to seasonal environmental conditions. We evaluated the predatory efficacy of syrphid flies (Toxomerus marginatus (Say), Eupeodes americanus (Fabricius)) and lacewings (Chrysoperla carnea (Stephens), Chrysoperla rufilabris (Burmeister)) across laboratory ...

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) in the service of biotechnology [PDF]
Originating in the Andes, the tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) was imported to Europe in the 16th century. At present, it is an important crop plant cultivated all over the world, and its production and consumption continue to increase.
