Unmanned Aerial Systems for Corrosion Detection: Multi‐Sensor Technologies, Challenges, and Opportunities for Next‐Generation Inspection

open access: yesQuality and Reliability Engineering International, Volume 42, Issue 6, Page 3565-3583, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Corrosion remains a critical threat to the integrity and service life of infrastructure in industries such as oil, gas, construction, renewable energy, and transportation. Traditional inspection methods, being labor‐intensive, hazardous, and often subjective, fall short in addressing modern inspection demands.

Helium Ion‐Induced Degradation Mechanisms in Optical Coatings for Space Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 14, Issue 36, 25 September 2026.
Although low‐energy helium ions represent a significant source of degradation for optical coatings operating in space environments, their effects remain poorly understood. Systematic irradiation of over 150 metal and dielectric thin‐film samples at 4, 16, and 100 keV investigates the damage mechanisms and their impact on optical performance ...

Solar Flare Ribbon Fronts. II. Evolution of Heating Rates in Individual Flare Footpoints

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Solar flare ribbon fronts appear ahead of the bright structures that normally characterize solar flares, and can persist for an extended period of time in spatially localized patches before transitioning to “regular” bright ribbons. They likely represent

Solar Fuels Via Methane Valorization: Thermochemical Pathways, Unified Metrics, and Techno‐Economic Perspectives

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, Volume 9, Issue 5, September 2026.
A first‐of‐its‐kind review benchmarks three solar methane valorization pathways with unified performance metrics for clean fuel production. Meeting global climate targets and sustainable energy demands requires carbon‐neutral fuels and innovative conversion pathways.

Analysis of Solar Microwave Burst Spectrum, I. Nonuniform Magnetic

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2018
Solar microwave bursts carry information about the magnetic field in the emitting region as well as about electrons accelerated during solar flares. While this sensitivity to the coronal magnetic field must be a unique advantage of solar microwave burst

A benchmark study for CHIANTI based on RESIK solar flare spectra [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2006
Aims. To perform a benchmark analysis for the recent version of the CHIANTI atomic database (v. 5.2) based on high-resolution solar flare X-ray spectra in the range 3.4-6.1 angstrom from the RESIK crystal spectrometer on the CORONAS-F spacecraft.Methods. A C5.8 flare occurring on 2003 February 22 was chosen for analysis.

An Operational Daily‐Filtered Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory F10.7 cm Solar Radio Flux Product

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 13, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract The F10.7 solar radio flux density, or F10.7, is a disk‐integrated measure of the Sun's total emission at 10.7 cm (2.8 GHz) and is a widely‐used proxy of solar activity. F10.7 emissions primarily originate from the Sun's upper chromosphere and lower corona. High‐frequency, transient “radio bursts” can dramatically increase the magnitude of F10.

Spatially Resolved Transport Parameters in Solar Flares

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The time profile of solar flare radio emission is often modeled as an injection of energetic particles onto a closed magnetic loop, where they may be trapped by the pinching of field lines and remain for a time before decaying through loss of energy to ...

Tests of a New Solar Flare Model Against D and E Region Ionosphere Data

open access: yesSpace Weather, 2022
We present results from a suite of models designed to simulate solar flare effects on the D and E region of the ionosphere. This suite includes models of the solar spectrum, the ionosphere and of HF radiowave propagation.

Energy spectra of ions from impulsive solar flares

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1992
A study of the energy spectra of ions from impulsive solar flares in the 0.1-100 MeV region is reported. Most of the events studied are dominated by He and these He spectra show a persistent steepening or break above about 10 MeV resulting in an increase in the power-law spectral indices from about 2 to about 3.5 or more.
