Acoustic wave propagation in the solar sub-photosphere with localised magnetic field concentration: effect of magnetic tension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Aims: We analyse numerically the propagation and dispersion of acoustic waves in the solar-like sub-photosphere with localised non-uniform magnetic field concentrations, mimicking sunspots with various representative magnetic field configurations ...

Operation Limits of Integrated Photo‐Rechargeable Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study elucidates the operational limitations of integrated photo‐rechargeable batteries. We demonstrate that the photo‐charging process is fundamentally restricted not only by material‐to‐material energy level alignment but also by transient capacitive charge accumulation within the cathode framework.

Design of optimal transfers between North and South Pole-sitter orbits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Recent studies have shown the feasibility of an Earth pole-sitter mission, where a spacecraft follows the Earth’s polar axis to have a continuous, hemispherical view of one of the Earth’s Poles.

Asymmetric Lamellar Templating of the Perovskite/C60 Interface for Scalable Inverted Perovskite Photovoltaics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Asymmetric lamellar templating at the perovskite/C60 interface is achieved using a laterally polarized indole spacer. Surface anchoring and Ind–Ind assembly form a π‐rich lamellar interphase that supports uniform C60 contact formation, suppresses recombination, preserves electron extraction, and enables certified high‐efficiency cells and modules with ...

Probing the solar interior [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
The internal layers of the Sun are clearly shielded by the solar material beneath the visible surface. An accurate description of the Sun's interior is necessarily based on the equations governing solar structure along with the physical inputs describing

Biermann Battery Magnetic Flux Generation in the Deep Solar Interior

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Time-series analyses of helioseismic data and solar neutrino data have indicated the potential existence of a second tachocline at the core–radiative zone interface, which may in turn require consideration of an additional source of magnetic flux ...

Seismic Probes of Solar Interior Magnetic Structure

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2012
Sunspots are prominent manifestations of solar magnetoconvection and imaging their subsurface structure is an outstanding problem of wide physical importance. Travel times of seismic waves that propagate through these structures are typically used as inputs to inversions.

Resolving Nanoscale Heterogeneities in Lead Halide Perovskites Through Low‐Dose Concurrent 4D‐STEM‐EDX Mapping

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Mixed‐cation lead mixed‐halide perovskites suffer from structural instabilities linked to nanoscale heterogeneity. To probe this non‐destructively, a low‐dose, concurrent 4D‐STEM and EDX methodology has been developed. Examining a (FA0.83Cs0.17)Pb(I0.8Br0.2)3 film revealed a complex mosaic of coexisting crystal structures. Crucially, local deficiencies
