Performance of lettuce in sole cropping and intercropping with green manures [PDF]

open access: yesHorticultura Brasileira, 2010
The performance of lettuce in sole and intercropped with green manures was assessed under different establishment times. The lettuce fresh and dry weight, number of leaves per plant, diameter and length of head, and fresh and dry weight of green manure were evaluated.

Phosphorus availability under alley cropping and mulched and unmulched sole cropping systems in Costa Rica

Plant and Soil, 1991
Phosphorus availability was measured in soils under five cropping systems: alley cropping with Erythrina poeppigiana, alley cropping with Gliricidia sepium, sole cropping with Erythrina poeppigiana mulch applied, sole cropping with Gliricidia sepium mulch applied, sole cropping with no mulch.

Growth Analysis of Biomass Production in Sole‐Crop and Double‐Crop Corn Systems

Crop Science, 2009
ABSTRACTIncreased biomass productivity could be achieved through double‐cropping if extended growth duration could be realized with minimal reductions in growth efficiency relative to sole‐cropping. To test this hypothesis, functional growth analysis was used to assess the relative importance of photosynthetic duration and efficiency in determining ...

Crop Yield Response to Incorporation of Leaf Prunings in Sole and Alley Cropping Systems

East African Agricultural and Forestry Journal, 1996
AbstractThis experiment assessed the feasibility of using leaf prunings of Calliandra calothyrsus and Leucaena leucocephala for soil fertility improvement in alley cropping and sole cropping systems. The experiment, conducted at the National Agroforestry Research site at the Kenya Agricultural Research Institutes's (KARI's) Regional Research Centre ...

Gross Primary Production Estimation in Crops Using Solely Remotely Sensed Data

Agronomy Journal, 2019
Gross primary production (GPP) is a measure for crop productivity, indicating yield and expressing C exchange of agro‐ecosystems. A multitude of satellite sensors at varying spatial and spectral resolution brings a possibility to use remotely sensed data for regional and global GPP estimation.

Response of cereals to nitrogen in sole cropping and intercropping with different legumes [PDF]

open access: yesPlant and Soil, 1987
The response of sole and intercropped cereal to nitrogen fertilization was compared in three contrasting cropping systems, sorghum/pigeonpea, maize/groundnut, and sorghum/cowpea. The cereal in these systems responded to nitrogen similarly as in sole cropping, although different legumes affected the cereal differently.

Fertilizer Placement for Sole-Crop Cowpeas in Southern Nigeria

Experimental Agriculture, 1965
SummaryThe time and method of placement, and the distance from the plant at which fertilizers should be placed, was studied on sole-crop cowpeas. The development and yield of both early and late season crops were highest where fertilizers were applied at planting. It is suggested that it might be more advantageous to plough the fertilizers under before
