Probing Solute Clustering in Supercritical Solutions Using Solvatochromic Parameters

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2007
Kamlet and Taft polarity parameters are presented for three supercritical solutions containing solutes of different polarities at two concentrations. It is shown that the polarizability and hydrogen-bond-donating ability change significantly with pressure.

Neural Network Prediction of the Solvatochromic Polarity/Polarizability Parameter

Journal of Chemical Information and Computer Sciences, 1997
A three-layer feed-forward neural network was used for the prediction of the polarity/polarizability parameter . A simulated annealing algorithm was used to minimize the error at the neural network output. Descriptors related to the structure of the compounds were calculated as the input vector. The Kohonen neural network was used to split the data set

Prediction of LC retention of steroids using solvatochromic parameters

Chromatographia, 1995
The proportion of organic modifier and pH of the hydroorganic mobile phase were optimized to separate a series of nine important steroids by LC. It has been shown that linear plots of logk′ against Reichardt’sE T N parameter for the mobile phase is observed over the whole ...

On the determination of polarity parameters of silica by means of solvatochromic probe dyes

Colloid & Polymer Science, 1996
Empirical “solvent” parameters of silica surfaces are determined by means of solvatochromic dyes, e.g., Cu(tmen) (acac)+ ClO 4 − /B(C6H5) 4 − , Fe(phen)2(CN)2, and Michlers Ketone dissolved in 1,2-dichloroethane or cyclohexane. The values obtained by

Drug solubility prediction by using solvatochromic parameters

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 1991
Abstract The advantages and possibilities for predicting solubilities by using linear combinations of solvatochromic parameters are discussed. A brief survey on drug solubility prediction is given.

Solvatochromism used in determining some molecular electro-optical parameters

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
Two spectrally active molecules - carbanion monosubstituted cycloimmonium ylids having as heterocycles benzo-[f]- quinolinium and p-phenyl-pyridazinium - can offer information about the local field of forces in binary solutions. Hyper Chem. 8.0.6 software was used to characterize these molecules from the structural, energetic and electro-optical ...

A Solvatochromic Dye as a Convenient Indicator of the Solubility Parameter of Petroleum Solvents

Bulletin of the American Group. International Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works, 1967
The solvent power of petroleum solvents is highly dependent upon the percentage of aromatic compounds present in the mixture. In alkyl benzenes, it is dependent upon the proportion of aromatic character in the compounds. Suppliers of petroleum solvents frequently state the aromatic content of their solvents or provide figures for the Kauri-Butanol ...

Correlation of the eluting strengths of solvents in adsorption chromatography with solvatochromic parameters

Journal of Chromatography A, 1992
Abstract The Snyder measure of solvent eluting strength (ϵ0) in adsorption chromatography correlates well with the molecular dipolarity polarizability (π*), hydrogen bond acidity (α), and hydrogen bond basicity (β) solvatochromic parameters. In addition, the δ correction term to π* is a minor influence but statistically significant.

Solvent classification based on solvatochromic parameters: a comparison with the Snyder approach

TrAC Trends in Analytical Chemistry, 1997
Abstract Solvents play a major role in many chemical processes. Their effect is closely related to the nature and extent of solute/solvent interactions, developed locally in the immediate vicinity of the solutes. A new generation of empirical parameters helps to describe the solvent features in these microscopic environments.
