A Novel Decellularized Fibrocartilage Graft Promotes Tympanic Membrane Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
An off‐the‐shelf decellularized porcine meniscus fibrocartilage graft (MEND) is engineered for pediatric tympanoplasty. Featuring a microchannel architecture that promotes host cell invasion, MEND rapidly closes tympanic membrane perforations and fully remodels in vivo, outperforming fascia and matching cartilage grafts while avoiding donor‐site ...

Pentafluoroethane Dehydration with Ionic Liquids

open access: yes, 2018
Ionic liquids (ILs) were proposed as promising separating agents for the hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) pentafluoroethane (R125) dehydration. Taking into account the H2O solubility and selectivity of H2O to R125 in a variety of IL candidates, we determined ...

Targeting Post‐Irradiation Thyroid Dysfunction: Electrospun Scaffolds As A Dual‐Action Approach for Antioxidant and Immune Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Radiation‐induced hypothyroidism follows head and neck radiotherapy due to oxidative stress and inflammation. Electrospun polycaprolactone scaffolds containing adenosine have potential to modulate thyroid repair. Scaffolds enhance thyrocyte proliferation, antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase and catalase, reduce senescence and apoptosis markers ...

A Comparative Study of Dehydration and Infiltration

open access: yes, 1944
Dehydration is the process of removing water from tissue which has been fixed and hardened. It is a necessary step for the Infiltration of paraffin. If the dehydrating agent is not a solvent of the paraffin, it is necessary to use a solvent first and ...

Environment-Oriented Assessment of Hybrid Methods for Separation of N-Propanol–Water Mixtures: Combination of Distillation and Hydrophilic Pervaporation Processes

open access: yesMembranes
This study presents a novel approach to the dehydration of n-propanol using three hybrid methods—D + HPV, D + HPV + D, and D + HPV + D with heat integration—each combining distillation (D) and hydrophilic pervaporation (HPV) without the use of additional

Co‐Electrospinning Extracellular Matrix with Polycaprolactone Enables a Modular Approach to Balance Bioactivity and Mechanics of a Multifunctional Bone Wrap

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The incorporation of nondigested ECM and synthetic polymers into a co‐electrospinning system enables the decoupling of bioactivity and mechanical properties within a single wrap. This technique is used to develop a multifunctional bone wrap that achieves augmented membrane durability, sustained infection control, and enhanced vascularity for use in ...

Coaxially Electrospun Myocardial dECM‐ Based Nanofibrous Scaffolds Demonstrate Enhanced Cardiomyocyte Biocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Our coaxial electrospinning system is capable of incorporating decellularized myocardial extracellular matrix in a core‐sheath configuration, creating nanofibrous scaffolds. These scaffolds, in turn, support the maintenance of functional cardiomyocytes adhered to the surface of these bioactive scaffolds.

The preparation and characterisation of hydrophobic polymeric membranes for use in the separation of liquid mixtures using pervaporation separation processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Pervaporation is a membrane separation process used to separate liquid mixtures Separation is achieved by establishing a concentration vapour-pressure gradient across the membrane.

Ultrasensitive Detection of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus Infections Using Multivalent DNA Nanostructure‐Enabled Lateral Flow Assay

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A multivalent DNA nanostructure‐enabled lateral flow assay was developed for rapid, ultrasensitive detection of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) nucleocapsid protein. Designer net‐shaped DNA nanostructures (DNA‐Net) presenting PEDV‐specific aptamers achieved ~1000‐fold enhanced binding, enabling detection of viral copies with Ct ≤ 37.42 within 10

Impact of solid state properties of sodium naproxen hydrates on their technological performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Sodium naproxen, a member of the class of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), exists in one anhydrous form and four hydrated ones: one monohydrate, two dihydrate and one tetrahydrate.
