Effects of Solvents on Acetylcholine Conformation

Nature, 1966
IN earlier communications1–3 we reported the results of our investigations with acetylcholine and related substances. These led us to conclude that the acetyl group is activated primarily by an inductive influence of the quaternary nitrogen. This conclusion was based in large measure on the carbonyl stretching frequencies which were observed for ...

Effect of Solvent on Tetrazolium Reaction

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1976
The rate of color development of a tetrazolium formazan is shown to be inversely proportional to the dielectric constant of the solvent medium and directly proportional to the hydrogen-bonding capability of solvent mixtures having the same dielectric constant.

The solvent effect on the α-effect

J. Chem. Soc., Chem. Commun., 1986
The reaction of p-nitrophenyl acetate with butane-2,3-dione monoximate anion as the α-nucleophile, compared with p-chlorophenoxide ion as the normal nucleophile, exhibits a maximum in rate enhancement (‘α-effect’) in dimethyl sulphoxide–water mixtures as the medium composition is varied.

Solvents and Solvent Effects in Biomass Conversion

2014
Hydrogenation and hydrogenolysis of molecules derived from plant biomass are reactions often performed in liquid phase because the highly functionalized biomass molecules (e.g. cellulose, hemicellulose, sugars, and lignin) cannot be vaporized without undergoing thermal decomposition.

Solvent effects in vibrational spectroscopy

Transactions of the Faraday Society, 1960
The effects of solute-solvent interactions on the frequencies, intensities and shapes of the infra-red absorption bands of dissolved molecules are discussed. The interaction potential energy U between a single solute molecule and its environment is treated as a variable depending upon the solvent configuration and on the normal co-ordinates of the ...

PHYSIOLOGIC EFFECTS OF INDUSTRIAL SOLVENTS

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1949
A glance at the stock shelves of any neighborhood store, even in a small town, shows that chemicals are playing an increasingly important part in our daily life. The grocer sells synthetic detergents; the hardware store, paints, laquers, paint and stain removers; the drugstore, insecticide sprays; the corner gasoline station offers window cleaners and ...

Solvent effects in anion recognition

Nature Reviews Chemistry
Anion recognition is pertinent to a range of environmental, medicinal and industrial applications. Recent progress in the field has relied on advances in synthetic host design to afford a broad range of potent recognition motifs and novel supramolecular structures capable of effective binding both in solution and at derived molecular films.
