Crustacean shell bio-refining to chitin by natural deep eutectic solvents

open access: yesGreen Processing and Synthesis, 2019
This study provides a complete evaluation of a sustainable zero-waste process for the recovery of added value biomaterials from the abundant shrimp shell biomass waste using natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES).

Unraveling the Catalytic Mechanism of Nitrile Hydratases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
To elucidate a detailed catalytic mechanism for nitrile hydratases (NHases), the pH and temperature dependence of the kinetic constants kcat and Km for the cobalt-type NHase from Pseudonocardia thermophila JCM 3095 (PtNHase) were examined.

Perturbative polydispersity: Phase equilibria of near-monodisperse systems

open access: yes, 2000
The conditions of multi-phase equilibrium are solved for generic polydisperse systems. The case of multiple polydispersity is treated, where several properties (e.g. size, charge, shape) simultaneously vary from one particle to another.

Studies on the compounds lipids from X-ray irradiated animal,1. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1962
For the purpose to reveal the mechanism of the biological indirect action of X-rays the author has conducted the analysis of the compound lipids of the organs of the rabbits irradiated with X-rays.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Fractionation of 17-Ketogenic Steroids by Solvent Partition

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 1968
Abstract A simple method of fractionating 17-ketogenic steroids by solvent partition is described. It was applied to specimens from 20 hospitalized patients with no apparent adrenal disorder and to 5 patients before and after oral Metopirone* treatment.

Deep Eutectic Solvents: Fractionation of Wheat Straw

open access: yesBioResources, 2015
Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are a relatively new topic in science. Their usage is not yet clearly defined, and the areas in which DESs may be applied are constantly growing. A simple and clean fractionation of the main components of biomass represents a very important step in creating a clean, renewable carbon economy. A major challenge is the use of

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Effect of combining glucocorticoids with Compound A on glucocorticoid receptor responsiveness in lymphoid malignancies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Glucocorticoids (GCs) are a cornerstone in the treatment of lymphoid malignancies such as multiple myeloma (MM) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.
