High-Speed Counter-Current Chromatography in Separation and Identification of Saponins from Beta vulgaris L. Cultivar Red Sphere

open access: yesPolish Journal of Food and Nutrition Sciences, 2020
Saponins, natural plant compounds exhibiting health benefits, were extracted from B. vulgaris L. cultivar (cv.) Red Sphere and separated by high-speed counter-current chromatography (HSCCC) in a new solvent system composed of: TBME-BuOH-ACN-H2O (1:2:1 ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Effects of temperature and solvent condition on phase separation induced molecular fractionation of gum arabic/hyaluronan aqueous mixtures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Effects of temperature and solvent condition on phase separation-induced molecular fractionation of gum arabic/hyaluronan (GA/HA) mixed solutions were investigated. Two gum arabic samples (EM10 and STD) with different molecular weights and polydispersity

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Fractionation of lignin from rice straw using an acidified biphasic solvent system

open access: yes, 2023
To obtain lignin from lignocellulosic biomass, phenoxyethanol (EPH) was employed to construct a biphasic solvent system. The concentration of EPH in this biphasic solvent system was first studied to determine a pre-treatment condition for fractionation ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Fractionation of 17-Ketogenic Steroids by Solvent Partition

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 1968
Abstract A simple method of fractionating 17-ketogenic steroids by solvent partition is described. It was applied to specimens from 20 hospitalized patients with no apparent adrenal disorder and to 5 patients before and after oral Metopirone* treatment.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Extractability and mobility of mercury from agricultural soils surrounding industrial and mining contaminated areas

open access: yes, 2010
This study focussed on a comparison of the extractability of mercury in soils with two different contamination sources (a chlor-alkali plant and mining activities) and on the evaluation of the influence of specific soil properties on the behaviour of the
