Ultrasound Dose Fractionation in Sonodynamic Therapy
Ultrasound in Medicine & Biology, 2010Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) is a new modality in cancer therapy and it is based on preferential uptake and/or retention of a sonosensitizing drug in tumor tissues and subsequent activation of the drug by ultrasound. The dose fractionation effect in radiation therapy has been known for more than a century, but it is not reported in SDT so far.

Tumor Microenvironment‐Related Sonodynamic Therapy Mediates Tumor Therapy
Advanced Therapeutics, 2023AbstractSonodynamic therapy (SDT) is a rapidly developing, safe, and noninvasive method for tumor treatment. SDT relies on ultrasound to stimulate the activity of sonosensitizers, induce the production of many reactive oxygen species (ROS), and mediate tumor cell death.

Combinations with Sonodynamic Therapy
2023Like photodynamic therapy, sonodynamic therapy is based on ultrasonic activation of a sonodynamic therapy sensitizer to kill disease cells by production of reactive oxygen species in excess of what can be handled by cellular redox homeostasis biochemical pathways.

The promise of sonodynamic therapy
Cancer and Metastasis Reviews, 2013Sonodynamic therapy is a potential cancer treatment modality that has been gaining support due to its effectiveness in both in vitro and in vivo studies. The therapeutic method combines ultrasonic irradiation with drugs known as sonosensitizers that amplify its ability to inflict preferential damage on malignant cells.

Sonodynamic therapy: A potential treatment for atherosclerosis
Life Sciences, 2018Atherosclerosis (AS), a chronic arterial disease, is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Several treatment modalities have been demonstrated to be effective in treating AS; however, the mortality rate due to AS remains high. Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) is a promising new treatment using low-intensity ultrasound in combination ...

Inorganic Sonosensitizers for Sonodynamic Therapy in Cancer Treatment
Small, 2023AbstractThe rapid development of nanomedicine and nanobiotechnology has allowed the emergence of various therapeutic modalities with excellent therapeutic efficiency and biosafety, among which, the sonodynamic therapy (SDT), a combination of low‐intensity ultrasound and sonosensitizers, is emerging as a promising noninvasive treatment modality for ...

Recent Developments of Inorganic Nanosensitizers for Sonodynamic Therapy
Advanced Healthcare Materials, 2023AbstractAs a noninvasive treatment, sonodynamic therapy (SDT) has been widely used in the treatment of tumors because of its ability to penetrate deep tissue with few side effects. As the key factor of SDT, it is meaningful to design and synthesize efficient sonosensitizers. Compared with organic sonosensitizers, inorganic sonosensitizers can be easily

The promising interplay between sonodynamic therapy and nanomedicine
Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews, 2022Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) is a non-invasive approach for cancer treatment in which chemical compounds, named sonosensitizers, are activated by non-thermal ultrasound (US), able to deeply penetrate into the tissues. Despite increasing interest, the underlying mechanisms by which US triggers the sonosensitizer therapeutic activity are not yet clearly ...

Probing the mechanisms of sonodynamic therapy
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2022Drugs that can be activated by a physical stimulus at a target site offer great potential for limiting toxic side effects, e.g., in cancer therapy. In photodynamic therapy, light is used as the stimulus, but clinical applications are limited due to the poor penetration of light in tissue.
