‘It helped me sort of face the end of the world’: the role of emotions for third sector climate change engagement initiatives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This paper examines the role that attention to emotions around climate change can play for third sector climate change engagement initiatives, an area to which the literature on such initiatives has paid little attention.

Prognosis of Long‐Term Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy and the Impact of Combined Continuous Intravenous Sodium Infusion Therapy

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Patients requiring long‐term continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) generally have poor prognoses. This study evaluated whether adding continuous intravenous sodium infusion (cIVNa) is associated with improved hemodynamics and outcomes in patients undergoing long‐term CRRT for ≥ 7 days.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Does pre-diagnostic loss to follow-up among presumptive TB patients differ by type of health facility? An operational research from Hwange, Zimbabwe in 2017

open access: yesThe Pan African Medical Journal, 2018
INTRODUCTION: While there are many studies assessing the pre-treatment loss to follow-up (LFU) among tuberculosis patients in public sector, there is no evidence from private-for-profit health sector and pre-diagnostic LFU from Zimbabwe.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Nearly optimal oblivious sort

open access: yes, 2023
It is well known that sorting N elements in the external memory model requires at least sort(N) = 2N/B ⌈log(N/B)/log(M/B)⌉ I/Os, where M is the internal memory size and B is the block size, and this is attained precisely by external merge sort. In recent

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Sorting with a popqueue

open access: yesRAIRO - Theoretical Informatics and Applications
We introduce a new sorting device for permutations, which we call popqueue. It consists of a special queue, having the property that any time one wants to extract elements from the queue, actually all the elements currently in the queue are poured into the output. We illustrate two distinct optimal algorithms, called Min and Cons, to sort a permutation

Verification of Counting Sort and Radix Sort [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We discuss a mechanized correctness proof in KeY of Counting sort and Radix sort. Counting sort is an unusual sorting algorithm in the sense that it is based on arithmetic rather than comparisons. Radix sort is tailored to sorting arrays of large numbers.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative
