Soxhlet extraction: Past and present panacea

Journal of Chromatography A, 2010
An overview of Soxhlet extraction, the advantages and shortcomings of this centenary technique as well as the attempts to improve its performance and achievements reached is here presented. Assistance of high pressure, ultrasound or microwaves has decreased or minimized the negative characteristics of the conventional extractor.

A Soxhlet micro-extractor

Journal of Scientific Instruments, 1964
An apparatus is described which works on the Soxhlet principle and which is capable of dealing with quite small amounts (similar 30 mg fresh weight) of tissue. It is robust, easily constructed, and small enough to be set up in replicate on a simple support.

Instability of tetryl to Soxhlet extraction

Journal of Chromatography A, 1994
Abstract The stability of tetryl (N-methyl-N,2,4,6-tetranitroaniline) to Soxhlet extraction with methanol was examined by refluxing tetryl in methanol and extracting a tetryl-contaminated soil using Soxhlet, ultrasonic bath and wrist-action shaker methods. The results indicate that tetryl is unstable to Soxhlet extraction.
