Asymptotically Schroedinger Space-Times: TsT Transformations and Thermodynamics

open access: yes, 2010
We study the complete class of 5-dimensional asymptotically Schroedinger space-times that can be obtained as the TsT transform of a 5-dimensional asymptotically AdS space-time. Based on this we identify a conformal class of Schroedinger boundaries.

Landscape‐level wolf space use is correlated with prey abundance, ease of mobility, and the distribution of prey habitat

open access: yes, 2017
Predator space use influences ecosystem dynamics, and a fundamental goal assumed for a foraging predator is to maximize encounter rate with prey. This can be achieved by disproportionately utilizing areas of high prey density or, where prey are mobile ...

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Space-use patterns highlight behavioural differences linked to lameness, parity, and days in milk in barn-housed dairy cows

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Lameness is a key health and welfare issue affecting commercial herds of dairy cattle, with potentially significant economic impacts due to the expense of treatment and lost milk production.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Reimagining soil stewardship in the anthropocene: Nature-Positive pathways, pedological perspectives, and land use innovations for soil health and security

open access: yesSoil Security
Soils underpin terrestrial ecosystems and human well-being, yet they remain highly vulnerable to degradation driven by climate change, unsustainable land use, and intensifying anthropogenic pressures.

Investigating use of space of pedestrians [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Understanding use of space of pedestrian is important to plan/design street environments or large public transport facilities. The purpose of a series of our research is to investigate use of space of various pedestrians in a variety of environmental ...

Space Colonization Using Space-Elevators from Phobos [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2003
A novel approach is examined for creating an industrial civilization beyond Earth. The approach would take advantage of the unique configuration of Mars and its moon Phobos to make a transportation system capable of raising mass from the surface of Mars to space at a low cost.

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Disentangling Action from Social Space: Tool-Use Differently Shapes the Space around Us

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2016
Converging evidence suggests close relationships between the action and social space representations. The concepts of peripersonal space, as defined by cognitive neuroscience, and interpersonal space, as defined by social psychology, refer to approximately the same spatial area surrounding our bodies.
