On the spatial behavior in Type III thermoelastodynamics

open access: yesZeitschrift für angewandte Mathematik und Physik, 2013
This note is concerned with the linear (and linearized) Type III thermoelastodynamic theory proposed by Green and Naghdi. We investigate the spatial behavior of the solutions when we assume the positivity of the elasticity tensor, the thermal conductivity tensor, the mass density and the heat capacity.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Resource selection by Sarda cattle in a Mediterranean silvopastoral system

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
Knowledge of how grazing cattle utilize heterogeneous landscapes in Mediterranean silvopastoral areas is scarce. Global positioning systems (GPS) to track animals, together with geographic information systems (GIS), can relate animal distribution to ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Spatial clustering in vaccination hesitancy: The role of social influence and social selection.

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2022
The phenomenon of vaccine hesitancy behavior has gained ground over the last three decades, jeopardizing the maintenance of herd immunity. This behavior tends to cluster spatially, creating pockets of unprotected sub-populations that can be hotspots for ...

Control of spatial behavior by an unstable landmark.

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Psychology: Animal Behavior Processes, 1998
In 5 experiments rats were required to escape from a pool of water by finding a submerged platform that varied in position from session to session. The platform was in a fixed direction and at a fixed distance from a landmark that was located in the pool.
